Back at Saffron City Stadium
"Everyone we are gathered here today for the first Kanto Battle Club Tournament located here in Saffron City!" the announcer/commentator said "We have sixteen trainers that have registered and momentarily we will decide the matchups"
Down in the stadium with the participants
"Max!" a voice called out
"Nate?" Max said as he and Bonnie turned to find a boy in a visor-like hat approaching them "You're here too?"
"Yep!" Nate said with a laugh "Wally and Rosa are somewhere around here too!"
"Wow all your friends are here," Bonnie said
"Oh, is this the famous Bonnie I've heard so much about!?" Nate said as he was looking at Bonnie not out of attraction but out of amazement "Must be some girl to be able to travel with Max"
"You've been talking about me?" Bonnie asked with a smirk making Max feel embarrassed
"I just brought up I was traveling with someone, Wally filled them all in on who you are in our group chat," Max said as Bonnie kept smirking making Max look away
"Hi, I'm Bonnie nice to meet ya!" Bonnie said extending her hand as she shook hands with Nate
"And I'm Nate, me and Max were rivals in Sinnoh, he eventually got the best of me so I'm hoping to get my revenge here!" Nate said, "Hey Max let's find Wally let's get the bros back together!"
"But I-"
"Nonsense it'll be fun," Nate said dragging Max away
"Have fun!" Bonnie waved off with a laugh, she started to look around and something caught her eye particularly a hat "Oh hey!"
The figure turned and was mildly surprised at who they saw "It's you!"
"Hey! Lea, right?!" Bonnie said remembering the girl from Cerulean City
"Yes, Bonnie, right?" Lea said as Bonnie nodded "I see you're participating as well; did you get that badge?"
"Yeah, Misty was so strong but my team pulled it off," Bonnie said "What about you? Make any progress?"
"Yeah," Lea said taking her badge case and opening it
"Four?!" Bonnie said shocked "You work fast! I still have two"
"Yeah, well I have someone I want to battle so this is just me proving I'm getting closer to battling him," Lea said "Plus when we met, I had three so I had a bit of a head start on you"
"I think I have a friend that can relate," Bonnie said referring to Max "But I really want to battle you!"
"Me?!" Lea said shocked that someone was that interested
"Of course, I've been doing some tough training I feel me and all of my Pokemon have leveled up," Bonnie said "And who better than to battle than someone ahead of me in badges!"
Lea was still shocked at the boldness but couldn't help but smile "You're on Bonnie"
"Oh, wow looks like we got rivals in the making," a new girl said approaching the two
"Who are you?" Lea asked
"I'm the future winner of this tournament," she said
"Nuh-uh," Bonnie said
"Powerful words," the girl said in a teasing way "But until I win you can call me Rosa"
"Alright Rosa, let us see who's the best then," Lea said
