With the absence of Ash, Max, and Bonnie have now continued their journey for their next gym badge, the destination they chose is Vermillion City
Bonnie was unusually quiet this trip and Max took noticed

"But you don't have to leave like right now right now, right?" Bonnie asked
"Fraid so, something just came up and I got to get there now," Ash said

"Guys I don't know how long this will take, it's mostly just a chance, you two need to keep getting badges and I'm not going to slow you down," Ash said
"Fine," Max said as Bonnie wanted to protest but Max stopped her "We're probably going to Vermillion City, it's a long route so we should meet you there"
"Thanks, Max," Ash said as he grabbed a Pokeball "Dawn make sure they are ready to travel since I know you're staying in Celadon"
"Yeah I'll get them recovered and well rested," Dawn said
"Alright, Charizard!" Ash said letting out his Pokémon and hopping on its back and flying off

"You know you can't lie to me right," Max said "These glasses see right through you" Bonnie chuckled at the glasses part
"I was just so excited to be traveling with Ash, and now he's not here," Bonnie said making a pouty face "Like I know he's saving the world and whatever but still"
"Yeah I'm a little bummed too" Max admitted "But what we did learn while he was here was great like think about in such a short time what we had accomplished"
"Vibrava evolved into Flygon, I caught my Mareep, Pikachu learned Thunderbolt, Kirlia evolved into Gallade, we both took part in a contest, and we both got our third badge," Bonnie said listing off all the things that have happened since Saffron City
"Yeah like I know I wanted him to travel with us but I think I underestimated how good of an influence he could be," Max said
"Yeah Ash Ketchum is amazing," Bonnie said
"Did I hear you right!" a voice said up ahead making Bonnie and Max look up and see a figure at the top of the small hill they were walking up
"Uh, who are you?" Max asked
"I'm Ash Ketchum's sister," the girl said "You can call me Molly Ketchum!"
