Bonnie and Max after many stops whether for training or shenanigans were finally arriving at Vermillion City
"Is that?" Bonnie asked
"Yeah... looks like Vermillion City, we arrived," Max said double checking his map app "So let's get to the Pokémon center before you start getting crazy about going to the gym"
"I wasn't going to go crazy I just... want my next badge..." Bonnie muttered the last part as Max shook his head at the attempt
"Let's go," Max said as he led the way with Bonnie next to him
Vermillion City
"So anything to do in the city like maybe another contest?" Bonnie asked
"We apparently missed the Vermillion City Contest," Max said as he was looking things up on his phone "One contest was more than enough for me"
"You lose one time to me and already don't like it," Bonnie said teasing him
"You seriously think you're better than me," Max said as he noticed this hasn't worn off yet
"I admit you were ahead of me in the beginning but now we're equals," Bonnie said "So you better be ready!"
"I-I don't know how to respond to that right now," Max said as he then looked up ahead "There's the Pokémon Center," Max said
"Great let's go!" Bonnie said running ahead as Max felt forced to match her speed
The two ran and entered the Pokémon Center filled with trainers as usual but two notable ones were at the counter waiting for Nurse Joy their Pokémon
"Ash?!" Max said
"Janine!?" Bonnie said as at the counter was Ash and Janine
"Oh hey guys you got here faster than I thought," Ash said as he thought he had some time before they arrived in the city
"You know each other?" Janine asked
"Yeah he's our mentor," Bonnie said as Ash looked confused that's what she referred to him as Janine became shocked
"We're friends, known him since we were little kids," Max clarified "So we naturally learned stuff from him over the years"
"And he trained us," Bonnie said
"-ing, I've been training, they're not done yet," Ash said as Janine just absorbed that information
"What are you doing here?" Max asked
"I was training and was getting valuable insight from Master Ash"
"Master?" Bonnie said
"Just call me Ash" Ash said
"I plan on leaving soon I have a flight to catch," Janine said before an idea came "Want to battle?"
Max and Bonnie both looked interested
"Alright outside I'll referee," Ash said as he ushered them out before they whipped out their Pokeballs in the center
They made their way outside in a space away from buildings and wouldn't impede people traveling
"Same rules as last time?" Janine suggested
"Fine by us!" Bonnie said "Venomoth I choose you"
"Venomoth!"
"It evolved!" Janine said remembering helping Bonnie catch it as a Venonat
"Yep!"
"Ariados! Crobat!" Janine said as she sent out the same pair she used against Ash before
