It's time for a throwback! The club battle tournament is back!

The next day

Saffron City Stadium

Saffron City was beaming with energy as it wasn't a tournament but watching Pokémon Battles was always big in Kanto

The exhibition match was promoted a while ago so many people came in from all over to watch

"Make your way inside folks you don't want to miss the exhibition and the headliner!" the announcer said as it projected over multiple speakers around the stadium and city

"Ok I'll be sitting behind you if you need anything," Lea said to Ash as he stood in front of the tunnel to make his eventual entrance

"Gotcha thanks Lea," Ash said as Lea nodded and made her way to her seat

"Good luck!" Lea said before she was out of earshot

"You know since I'm not using you today Pikachu maybe you should go with Lea," Ash said which made Pikachu sad he wasn't battling today "I know but we went over this I'm going to use Dewott later today and I already promised the others they were battling today"

"Pika?" Pikachu said as it was sniffing something familiar

"What is it, buddy?" Ash asked as Pikachu hopped off his shoulder and started running toward the entrance "Wait up!"

Towards the entrance

"Phew we made it," Bonnie said as she and Max were catching their breath

"We were only running late because you slept in!" Max said

"Hehe sorry, but we walked most of the night and I was tired," Bonnie said

"Pikachu!" Pikachu said jumping into the pair

"Waa!" Max said as he and Bonnie got tackled

"Wait is this" Bonnie said as Pikachu snuggled into the pair

"Pikachu!" Ash called out after following Pikachu

"Ash!" Bonnie said

"It's you and this is Pikachu!" Max added

"Bonnie! Max! Good to see you!" Ash said

"I haven't seen you in forever," Bonnie said getting up to hug him

"It has been a while hasn't it," Ash said returning the hug

Bonnie's Eevee forced its way outside of its Pokeball and joined in on the hug

"Eevee!" Ash said

"Oh yeah Ash got Bonnie Eevee so they must be close," Max said as he was holding Pikachu

"Bonnie been taking good care of you?" Ash asked Eevee as he brushed its fur

"Vee!" Eevee said with a nod

"I've been doing a good job brushing Eevee's fur and feeding Eevee well," Bonnie said

"I can tell," Ash said letting Eevee back down "Max congratulations on top 8 in the Sinnoh league"

"You watched?!" Max said

"Of course!" Ash said "Honestly May wouldn't stop bothering me over it," he said with a slight laugh "She was sure it was yours to win"

Max smiled knowing his friend watched him and was encouraged by how much his sister supported him but he went back to neutral knowing Ash saw him lose "I still have much to learn" Max said

"Hey, it was a great battle you should be proud of what you and your Pokémon accomplished," Ash said as Max nodded "... The battle!"

"Oh, right your battle!" Bonnie said as they briefly forgot
