The following morning
After the Celadon City Contest Ash Max and Bonnie had dinner with Dawn and Lea then took the night's rest and are now heading to the Celadon City Gym for the latter twos gym battle
"So Lea's going to challenge the gym later?" Bonnie said
"Yeah she's been taking her training more seriously so she wants to make sure she's ready plus she said she's ahead of you so she can afford to let you catch up," Ash said
"Yeah this would be her fifth badge and this is our third," Bonnie said "No need to rush I guess"
"Yeah she got lucky with Viridian City with a temporary leader there and we took a lot of time with Janine as she got her fourth" Max said "She's ahead but not by much"
"So who's going first?" Ash asked
"I went first in the first gym against Forrest and Max went first in the second gym against Misty so I guess I'm going first," Bonnie said following the pattern
"Her name is Erika right?" Max asked
"Yeah she uses grass types," Ash said "She's a bit more technical if that's the best word, so she doesn't have Misty's raw power for example"
"Ok then so this should be an interesting battle," Bonnie said
They walked into the gym and were surprised to see Dawn talking with Erika
"Dawn!"
"Hey everyone I knew I got here at the right time, I wanted to watch the gym battles, it's been a while since I've seen one" Dawn greeted
"Ash good seeing you again," Erika said to him
"Same to you Erika, hope you're ready for a gym battle," Ash said pointing to the kids
"Oh yes, the coordinators from yesterday, which one of you is challenging me today?" Erika said
"We both are, she's going first," Max said
"Very well, is 3 on 3 ok with you?" Erika asked
"Yes!"
"Alright we can get started now," Erika said as she took them inside the gym towards the battlefield
"Oh I'm so excited," Dawn said as they took their seats Bonnie took her challenger spot "Watching battles are so much fun!"
"The 3-on-3 match between Erika the gym leader and Bonnie the challenger, only the challenger may switch Pokémon," the referee said "Begin"
"Gloom come on out," Erika said sending out her first choice
"Gloom... Grass and Poison type" Bonnie said checking her Pokédex app "Alright my first Pokémon is Venonat!"
"Venonat!" Venonat exclaimed
"Venonat is a Bug type isn't that bad?" Dawn said
"Also part Poison so actually it's pretty even type wise, neither has the advantage there" Ash clarifies
"It comes down to the moves and technique," Max said "Bonnie you can't poison a Poison type!"
"I know that!" Bonnie said "You forget a couple of things and he thinks you forgot everything," she said to herself
"Begin!"
"Venonat Mega Drain," Bonnie said as Venonat let loose the Grass-type energy towards Gloom
"Acid," Erika said as Gloom countered the Mega Drain "Now Leech Seed"
