Chapter 5: Powers

Y/N awoke from his deep sleep, glancing around his familiar room. Sighing as he sat up and looked at the time. '6:45 ... I may as well stay up ...' He thought as he got out the bed and walked down the stairs. Looking around the room he pulled a chair up to the window and just gazed out, seeing the sun rise. 'I can't believe its been another month ... I'm glad that I managed to make some good friends ... but I still wonder ...' He thought as his gaze continued to skim the landscape.

Dark clouds could be seen building up above Beach City. 'I wonder how they'll react to my strength and speed ... I mean, seeing what some of the gems can do really got me thinking ... am I a gem?' He shook his head. 'Of course not, I-I've checked and I don't have any gem on me ...' He thought.

"What makes me different?" He asked with a quiet voice before sighing in defeat and sinking back down into the chair. Y/N stood up and decided to do his morning routine, he thought about life at home and why his parents didn't let him have a social life. "Did they think I was dangerous? ... Wait what am I saying ... I don't think they even know about my powers ..." He said as he picked out some clothes. 

Sighing once again he stood up and got dressed. He wiped the tears away and walked to the front door hoping that some fresh air could help clear his mind. Y/N took a trip down to the Beach deciding to bask in what little sun could be seen through the dark clouds. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the waves, until the sound of running could be heard behind him. Curiously Y/N, looked behind him and saw a balding man in a tank top, jeans and flip flops run towards him. 

The guy appeared in front of Y/N quicker than he expected but was completely out of breath. "Ooh Boy ... Maybe I didn't need to run ... Anywho, I'm Greg Universe." He said extending his hand to shake. Y/N did indeed shake Greg's hand. "I'm Y/N, I recall the gems saying something about you before ..." Y/N said as he tried to think.

"You know the gems?" Greg said with surprise. Y/N nodded. "Yeah, I'm friends with them all ... known them for about a month now." 

"News to me I guess but welcome to Beach City." Greg said with a smile and continued. "Since you're friends with the gems why don't you stop by? All of them are there." Greg suggested.

Y/N thought for a moment. 'They're all together at this time in the morning? Eh sure why not.' 

"Sure, got nothing going on." Y/N said as they stood up and signalled for Greg to lead the way. 

Which Greg did exactly that, taking the lead and leading Y/N up the stairs and opening the door of the Beach House.

"Hey y'all." Greg said as Y/N walked in behind him.

"Look who I found." Greg gestured to Y/N as the gems looked in his direction.

"Yo, 'sup dude, I was gonna come wake you up but looks like Greg beat me too it!" Amethyst teased as she punched Y/N on his arm. 

"Hey lil' man good to see you again." Bismuth said as she bent down to look at Y/N. "Hey bismuth!" Y/N greeted with a smile. Lapis was too busy sitting on the sofa wishing for the sweet release of death while Peridot and Pearl were arguing about something Y/N couldn't even begin to comprehend.

"Where's Garnet?" Y/N asked as he now just realised that Garnet was absent from the group.

"She's outside, didn't want to deal with the arguing." Bismuth said as she points towards Pearl and Peridot, which surprisingly, Amethyst and Greg had gotten involved in now. "Riiiiight ... well I'm just gonna go ... see her ..." Y/N said slowly removing himself from the mess that was beginning to form. Y/N quickly opened the door and walked down the steps looking around to see if he could find Garnet. It didn't take him long before he saw a square-headed lady sitting further down the beach.

Y/N carefully walked up to her and sat  down, trying not to disturb her peace.

"Hello Y/N." Garnet said in her usual stoic voice.

"Hey Garnet, what brings you here?" Y/N asked as he looked towards the ocean.

"Meditating. What brings you here?" Garnet said.

"I just thought to come see y-you? Sorry, I'm probably ruining your meditation huh ..." He said standing up, getting ready to walk away.

"No, stay." Garnet simply said as she patted the ground next to her. Y/N simply nodded and sat beside Garnet. There was a silence between the two but it was a comfortable one.

The waves continued going back and forth as the silence between the two. To Y/N it seemed like silence, to Garner it was anything but Silence. In Garnets mind it was her two halves that stopped it from being silent.

"Ruby he hasn't known us long enough to ask him." Sapphire said calmly.

"Yeah but its been a month, can't we just ask him? We both know something is different about him!" Ruby said rather angrily.

Garnet could feel them getting more divided as she sat there meditating, it didn't last for long however as Ruby ended up wining. She soon looked to her left and saw Y/N relaxing in the sun, his Y/C hair shifting in the wind. Garnet blushed slightly looking and Y/N but shook it off.

"Y/N ... What makes you different." Garnet said as she kept her eyes on him. 

Y/N jumped at the sudden question and looked into Garnet's star shaped visor. "W-what makes me ... different?" He stuttered.

"Yes, when we first met, I noticed something different about you but I can put my finger on it." She pauses. "Can you tell me?" She finished as she looks forward again.

Y/N sighs and looks forward. "I ... was born different ... my parents kept me away from everyone because ... I don't really know, maybe they thought I was dangerous but I don't know ..." He continued. "I was born with super strength and speed ... hanging out with you guys made me think I was a gem but ... I'm just an abnormal human ..." 

Y/N stops for a moment, he takes a deep breath. "I just ... didn't want this ... I wanted to be normal, make some friends but ... its taken me so long to just find some friends ..." Y/N was interrupted with a hand on his back, Garnet rubbed his back.

"Show me what you can do." Garnet says as she stand up.

Y/N looks at her confused for a moment before Garnet responds. "Let's spar."

"A-are you sure? I mean, I've never really had any formal training ..." he sighs.

"You'll be fine, don't worry." Garnet said as she brought her hands up.

Y/N nodded as he stood up, brought his hands up and ran towards Garnet. He was faster than she expected and stood her ground, waiting for his attack to connect. Y/N pulled his hand back and punched Garnet as she blocked it with the back of her hand. It pushed Garnet quite the distance as her feet stayed firmly in the ground.

'Now that was a punch ...' She thought as she relaxed.

Y/N ran over to her to check if she was okay. "Garnet! Are you okay??" He asked in a flurry. 

Garnet simply chuckled and stuck her hand out for him to shake which Y/N did with a confused smile. "Y/N, that was incredible. I knew there was something special about you. Come, lets go back to the others." She said as she walked towards the temple with Y/N in tow.

"He's special." Sapphire said.

"He's definitely something." Ruby replied.

'What a unique human ...' The three of them thought as the temple came ever closer ...
