Chapter 8: Old Enemies, New Love

Y/N opened the door to his house breathing heavily. He just finished another one of his daily workouts. "Another training session done." He groaned. Even though it was another one of his training sessions Garnet wasn't there, she was busy in Little Homeschool for a geminar.

"Maybe I'll ask her to join in next time ... if she's free ..." He sighs, feeling the burn of his muscles course through his body. Y/N went up to the kitchen and gathered the necessary items to make a sandwich, a big one at that.

Once his creation was made, he took it to the living room where he sat down and enjoyed his tasty food. 'Okay ... this rocks.' He internally chuckled to himself as he took another bite.

A few more minutes pass as he finished up his sandwich and set put everything away. "Hmmm." He mumbled as he looked around the room. "What to do now ... I guess I could go for a walk ..." He spoke to himself as he looked at his clothes and shrugged. "Not like I'm going anywhere fancy." Chuckling to himself, he locked the front door and headed down a path leading away from his house.

He continues down the path and sighs, thinking about what's happened in the time he's lived in Beach City. 'It's nice to have friends and a place to call home ... I wonder what they all think of me ... especially Garnet.' His eyes widen at the thought. 'Garnet wouldn't like me ... at least I don't think so, what about how we almost kissed or danced ... I don't even know ...' He sighs, not wanting to think about it.

The path gradually gets more covered by trees and as Y/N is about to head back he hears some commotion nearby.

"Where is Steven Universe, answer me or I will shatter you." The voice said as a groan could also be heard.

Y/N carefully walked towards where he heard the voice and peaked out of some bushes that blocked his view. There he saw a Ruby with a band around her head laying on the floor with a blue-ish person with 4 legs and a sword in on hand standing over the Ruby.

"I won't tell you anything! Just leave us alone!" The Ruby yelled.

"Well, looks like I'll just have to get rid of you." The blue gem said as she raised her sword.

Y/N eyes once again widened at what he was about to witness, he couldn't let this happen. Before the blue gem could plunge her sword into the Ruby, Y/N ran from out of the bushes and rammed into the gem, knocking her into a nearby tree.

Y/N looked down at the Ruby, who also looked up at Y/N with a confused face. "Hey don't worry, I won't let her hurt you." He said as he offered her his hand.

"Y/N ...  thank you." She said as she took his hand as she stood up.

"Great who's this? Oh, it's just a human, let's get this over with." She said as she pulled out another sword from one of her gems. Y/N defensively stood in front of Ruby as the Blue gem prepared to attack. "I'll just have to kill you both." She said as she summoned her wings and flew towards the duo. Y/N had been prepared and thanks to his training, he moved Ruby out of the way and sidestepped to dodge the incoming sword swing. Once he avoided it, he went in for a punch on the blue gem, successfully punching the gem into some bushes.

"That was amazing!" The Ruby said as she ran up and hugged Y/N. "You're so strong!" She complemented.

Y/N couldn't help but blush. "Heh, it was nothing, I've been training is all ..." He's suddenly interrupted by the blue gem getting back up. "You're strong for a human, I like that. You best be careful and watch your back." She said as she flew off whilst laughing maniacally.

"So ... what was that about?" Y/N asked as he looked down at the Ruby.

"Well ... her name is Bluebird, she's a fusion of Aquamarine and Eyeball. They don't like Steven or Era 3 ... I was going to a geminar  but she picked me up and flew me here ..." She paused a second while looking down kicking her feet. "She might've shattered me if you didn't save me ... Thank you Y/N ..."

"Hey, don't worry, I'm just glad you're okay." He said as he crouched down to get a better look at the Ruby. "Come on, lets get you back to that geminar." He said standing up.

The two of them walked down the same path Y/N had come from and ended up going past his house, soon they found the warp pad and stood atop of it. The warp stream soon sucked them away from the forest. "W-woah, I'll never get used to this ..." Y/N said as he chuckled.

"H-hey ... thank you ... for saving me, I really mean it ..." Ruby said as she rubbed the back of her neck.

"Honestly, don't worry about it, besides you'd do the same for me." he smiled and then added. "By the way, how'd you know my name?" He asked curiously.

"O-oh ... Garnet told me, she talks about you a lot ..." She said with hesitation.

Y/N blushed at the comment but decided not to respond but either way the warp stream ended and brought them to Little Homeschool.

Before either Y/N or Ruby could react, a small blue gem tackled Ruby into a hug.

"Ruby! I-I thought something happened to you ..." The blue gem said as she started to sob into her lovers embrace.

"N-no sapphy, it's okay ... Y/N saved me ..." She said as she returned the hug with plenty of kisses. 

"I-I predicted he would ... I just hoped that he was able ..." She continued sobbing into Ruby's embrace. She soon calmed down and turned to Y/N/ "Th-thank you Y/N, I was worried on what would happen to her ... if you had been any longer I would've got the others but I didn't need to." She took a breath before adding. "Thank you, really. You saved my eternal flame, I don't know what I'd do without her." She finished before turning back to Ruby, giving her a kiss on the lips.

"Like I told ruby, don't worry, I'm sure you'd do the same for me." He smiled. "But I'm sure you want to spend time with each other, I best be going now ..." But was cut off by Ruby.

"W-wait yo-you can't because ... erm ... Garnet! She ... wanted to talk with you!" She stuttered to see if he would stay.

Y/N was silent for a moment. "O-kay? Where is she?" He said as he looked around.

"She'll meet you at your house, don't worry she's in a geminar at the minute." Sapphire said, adding onto Ruby's lie.

"Well ... can one of you warp me home please?" As soon as he said that both Ruby and Sapphire stood on the warp pad, the warp stream soon took all three away and deposited them back in the forest. 

Y/N gets off and waves goodbye, heading home after think of what happened today. It didn't take him long to reach his house, once inside he quickly got changed and relaxed on his sofa. Just as he was about to head to sleep, he heard a knock at the door, groaning he lazily got up and opened the front door already knowing who it was.

"Mind if I come in?" It was Garnet, he moved out the way and made space for her on the sofa.

The duo sat in silence for a few moments, until Garnet was the first to break it.

"Y/N thank you for saving Ruby. She told me what happened and I'm proud on how far you've come in such little time." She said as she edged closer to the human.

"You don't understand how thankful I am for saving Ruby." She added as she fazed off her shades and looked at Y/N

"G-garnet ... it's okay real-" He was cut off by Garnets lips interlocking with his.

The two sat there for what seemed like hours as they held each other, the kiss ever deepening. Unfortunately, all great things must end and the kiss was soon ended by a camera flash that came from outside the window.

"G-garnet ... I - er ..." Garnet interrupted.

"Y/N, rest now, thank you again for saving Ruby but I need to deal with Amethyst." She said not saying another word as she walked out the front door and closed it behind her. 

"I ... think I'm in love ..." Y/N mumbled to himself as he lay back on the sofa with his eyes threatening to close.
