“Let’s take a walk on the beach,” Tomas says to you after you finish a romantic dinner on the beach. The whole day had been like this: romantic, cute things. It all started with breakfast in bed; Tomas made you pancakes and even tried making one in the shape of a heart (it was close enough). At work you received a dozen white roses from ‘your secret admirer.’ When you got home, you found a note from Tomas: ‘Meet me in the park at 7 where we first met, and dress nicely.’ You smiled, and worried that you had missed your anniversary or maybe Tomas had the date of Valentine’s Day confused? But you didn’t mind the attention, so you put on one of your favorite dresses, a flowy /summery white dress, and a pair of heels, retouched your make up, and left just in time to get to the park by 7. You found Tomas sitting on the bench where the frisbee your dog had been chasing landed nearly three years ago, which led to you meeting him, and him asking you out for coffee. He was holding a single white rose and something else you couldn’t quite see. “Remember this?” he holds up a chewed up frisbee. “Was that Brownie’s?” You laugh and sit next to him on the bench. “Yup, and if it wasn’t for this, we never would have found each other,” he smiled and you replay the image of Brownie taking off after her frisbee, and it landing right next to Tomas.
“This is for you, I hope you got the others?” He hands you the rose and you nod. “All the girls in my office were jealous,” you smiled, and saw a horse drawn carriage start to come down the path toward you, and you turn to Tomas with an even bigger smile. “Is that for us?” He nods, and when the carriage stops he helped you up into it. “I feel like Cinderella,” you whisper to him as the carriage carries you to an unknown destination. “Anything for my princess,” Tomas replies, taking your arm in his. You arrive in front of a fancy restaurant you’ve never been to, and you are seated outside, just inches away from the beach. Between the sound of the waves and the beautiful sunset, the evening couldn’t have gotten better, at least you thought it couldn’t.
You chat with Tomas about the upcoming playoffs while you casually stroll along the beach. You had removed your heels and are now walking barefoot, feeling the soft sand between your toes. You drag Tomas over to the soft lapping waves and let it get your feet wet. “Come on, take your shoes off,” you urge him, and he finally takes his shoes and socks off, rolls up his pants a bit, and stands next to you in the waves. “(Y/N), can you believe it has already been three years?” He asks you with a smile. “No, it’s so crazy! It has been so much fun, though. It’s not our anniversary yet, you know?” He smiles when you ask him. “Not the anniversary of when we first met,” he flahses you a shy smile when you give him a confused look.
“(Y/N), the past three years have been the best years of my life, and that is all because you were right there beside me, after every loss, celebrating every win, holding my hand when I needed it, and making me laugh every day. I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without you, and I don’t want to have to face that. It would make me the happiest man on earth if you would agree to be my wife and spend every last day with me.” He gets down on one knee and pulls out a black box, opening it to reveal the most beautiful diamond ring you have ever seen. “(Y/N), will you marry me?”
Tears begin streaming down your face as you emphatically reply ‘yes.’ With trembling hands he carefully removes the ring from the black box and places it on your shaking ring finger. “Tomas, you have made me happier than you can imagine,” you say as he stands up, and kisses you. “Anything for my princess, or should I call you Mrs. Hertl?” He smiles, and you nod, “I like the sound of that.”
