Your heart sank as the horn sounded at the end of the third period, game seven with the Flyers down 2-1. As a Philly native you were of course cheering for the Flyers, yet now that you were going to school in New York, you had started to appreciate the Rangers a little more. A few of your friends (all Rangers fans) decided to go out to the bar to celebrate and you tagged along, not wanting to be alone after the loss.

As you waited at the bar to pick up drinks for the group, you notice someone across the bar looking at you. Not in a creepy way, but in a friendly ‘you’re-kinda-cute’ kind of way. It was pretty late and the bar wasn’t very busy, so you slid over to talk to him while you watched the bartender make your drinks.

“You look familiar,” you started and cocked you head as you tried to recall where you might have seen him. “Do I have a class with you?”

He shook his head, “Sorry miss, I don’t go to school.” He looked a little embarrassed.

“Hmm…I know I’ve seen you somewhere recently,” You thought some more, and stuck out your hand to introduce yourself. “I’m Y/N.”

“Steve,” he said and took your hand.

A hundred people named ‘Steve’ flashed through your head, when suddenly the name matched up with the face and you realized who he was. “Steve! Steve Mason, the goalie from the Flyers! That’s why you look so familiar.” You laughed and smiled, proud that you’d figured it out. A second later another realization hit you, and you stopped smiling. “I’m so sorry about the loss; that must be so hard for you. I’m from Philly and I’ve always loved the Flyers.”

“Yeah I feel pretty awful about it.”

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought it up. I’ll leave you alone and stop bothering you,” you apologized, and were about to get up when he put his hand on yours.

“Actually, it’s nice to see a Flyers fan who isn’t hating on the Rangers,” he smiled slightly, and you sat down again.

“If it makes you feel better, I think you played spectacularly tonight. You were the third star of the game, that’s pretty good!” You ended up talking to him for half an hour, eventually getting him to smile a little, before your friends came to find you.

“I’ve had good time talking to you Y/N, maybe I’ll see you around Philly sometime,” he said before you got dragged away by your friends and you managed to give him one last smile before you disappeared into the crowd.
