“So, You’ll be in my jersey of course.” Your brother, Kevin Bieska asked at the dinner table.

Since you rarely got to see your brother anymore you decided to invite him over for dinner with you and your boyfriend, Marc Staal.

“I, uh, haven’t thought about it.” You replied with staring intently at the mashed potatoes on your fork.

For weeks Kevin and Marc had been pestering you about their upcoming game. Canucks vs. Rangers. Kevin vs. Marc. Brother vs. Boyfriend. You were excited, but at the same time dreading the aftermath. It didn’t matter who won you would still have to deal with someone’s loss. Also, this game could determine if Kevin and Marc would have problems in the feature which is something you had worried about since you first starting dating Marc.

“Funny you don’t remember, because I’ve mentioned it to you before. I assumed you would have thought at least a little about it.” Marc knew you were lying.

You sighed and took a bite of food to buy you some time to think about an answer. You decided to move on.

“Where do you guys play after tomorrow’s game?”

Marc and Kevin exchanged a glance that seemed to share equal annoyance with you.

    “Chicago.” Marc answered.

    “Florida.” Kevin followed.

The small talk faded and left room for awkward silence.

“Well,” Marc said, setting his napkin in his cleared plate, “I’m done. Anyone ready for me to take their plates?”

You and Kevin both nodded and handed your boyfriend the dishes. He nodded at you and headed towards the kitchen. When he was gone Kevin looked at you again.

“Why him? Why not Eddie or Dan or Tanev? Someone on my team… Because right now I’m getting real tired of never seeing you.”

You sighed. Its not that simple. You wanted to tell him. How do you explain to your older, overprotective brother, that you love Marc and wouldn’t choose anyone else in the world?

“I know, Kev. I miss you too.”

Things were quiet for a moment. You looked anywhere but directly at Kevin.

    “Look at me, (Y/N).”

You sighed and rested your eyes with his.

    “What?” You asked.

“Do you think you’re in love with him?”

    Without hesitation you nodded.

    “I don’t think. I know.”

    Kevin smiled.

    “Good. I’m glad, sis.”

You smiled and nodded. Around the same time Marc came back in the room. While walking back to his seat he glanced at you with a raised eyebrow as if to say “How’d it go?” You nodded and smiled. Marc smiled back, obviously relieved by your non verbal answer.

He focused his attention back to both you and Kevin, “So, how about some Yahtzee?”

A few days later you sat in Madison Square Garden waiting for the game to start. On your right sat Kevin and your mom and dad and on the left sat Marc’s Mom and dad and his three brothers.
