Nightleaf purred. "You're back! Who's with you?"

"Us alone." Ravenpaw meowed. His blind gaze flicked from side to side.

"Follow me." The black she-cat led them into Featherstar's den. Featherstar lifted his head, he was sleeping. His eyes tired and fur ruffled.

"Yes Nightleaf?"

Nightleaf nudged the two apprentices' forward. "Look who came."

Featherstar purred. "CloudClan couldn't stand you?"

Ravenpaw swallowed. What would they say?

"We left at our own will," He mewed quietly.

Featherstar's eyes stretched wide. "D0 you know how much trouble that'll cause us when they find out?" He hissed. "Go to the apprentices' den!"

Ravenpaw felt Hollowpaw's fur brushed his. The brown she-cat wouldn't leave his side now, he sighed. Ravenpaw stood up, his pelt twitching. Hollowpaw stood up beside him.

"Why don't we both go hunting?" She suggested.

Ravenpaw looked away from her. "I'm just . . . going to eat."

Hollowpaw looked hurt. But nodded.

He scrambled down the cave. He felt uncomfortably aware of Hollowpaw's gaze on him. Why didn't she leave him ever alone? He picked his way to the prey-and-rock pile, grabbing a mouse. He felt happy to be home.

A cat's muzzle pushed his shoulder.

"Bristlenose!" Ravenpaw gasped.

"I'm happy to have you as my apprentice again." She purred.

Ravenpaw mewed in response, purring back. He flicked his tail, but before he could ask Bristlenose something, he was brought to the leaders' den. Foxpaw bounded into the den when he had settled down on the soft moss. Windtuft beside Featherstar.

"I'm happy to see you two back." Featherstar meowed.

Ravenpaw felt his fur prick. But he nodded.

"But. . . you should have waited until we claimed you back."

"Will you send us back?" Foxpaw whimpered.

Featherstar turned his gaze. "I'm not forcing you two to go back—" Ravenpaw felt relief wash towards him, "—but because of this we might have an oncoming battle to be fought. And we're not battle-ready."

Ravenpaw pushed himself to his paws. He fluffed his chest fur out. "I'll train as hard as I can!" He vowed.

"I'm so happy you're home." Mistleheart meowed.

Ravenpaw nodded. "Why don't we battle train?" He prompted.

Mistleheart didn't reply. A low purr came from Mistleheart. Ravenpaw felt frustration boil in him. All she was doing was talking, he came here to fight! Not speak!

"Aren't you listening?" He snapped.

"Loud and clear."

Ravenpaw snarled angrily. Why was she like this? Ravenpaw unsheathed his claws, swinging at Mistleheart's cheek. Mistleheart dunk her head down, Ravenpaw claws touched her ear tips, pulling a bit of her fur. Ravenpaw yowled in anger, pouncing on her. Mistleheart hissed, clawing at Ravenpaw's flank.

Ravenpaw gasped as he felt a stinging pain on his both flanks. It pooled with blood. Out of anger and frustration, he took off. Ravenpaw snarled trying to find his way to the Shadow Forest. Though he could not find it.

In the distance, he saw a lush green forest. He ran through it, a fresh wave of greenleaf brushed his fur. Warmness began to build up on him, and he felt like he was curled beside his mother, scents of prey brushed his nose. Suddenly someone stopped him.

"Stand still, young warrior." A soft voice mewed.

Ravenpaw stared at a ginger warrior with a white chest running all down to under his tail.

"I am Foxclaw, mother of your mother." She mewed. "As well as Pinefrost, and Mistleheart. Not to forget Hopkit." In the distance he saw a ginger and black kit playing with a gray warrior. His eyes grew round.

"Wow. . ." Ravenpaw mewed softly.

Foxclaw nodded. "Do you wish to see?"

"I do . . . maybe Featherstar could trust me more if I did. Every cat would be so surprised!"

Foxclaw purred in amusement. "I can grant you that wish, but in one condition: you must stop training with Mistleheart. I enjoy watching you train with her, knowing that my kit isn't alone anymore. But, you shall choose for yourself."

"Can I think for a few days first?" He prompted.

Foxclaw nodded. "Think well."

Ravenpaw's chest heaved as he batted Snailpaw's ears. Snailpaw yowled, hissing angrily. Ravenpaw leaped down and gripped Snailpaw's paws. He sent Snailpaw flailing back, but out of nowhere, the tom sprung back to his paws and leaped onto him.

Snailpaw smirked as he had Ravenpaw pinned down. Ravenpaw yowled, struggling to get out his strong grip. He felt frustrated when Bristlenose called them to stop.

Snailpaw leaped to his paws immediately, Ravenpaw slowly behind.

"Good job. Both of you." Applenose mewed, she kept a bright eye at her apprentice.

Ravenpaw huffed angrily. The cocky apprentice circled him, head high.

"You're a terrible fighter!" He hissed.

Ravenpaw did not reply. He just followed Bristlenose out the battle hollow. Once they reached outside, Snailpaw raced to him. Ravenpaw groaned in frustration, why wouldn't he leave him alone? Snailpaw paced after him as he padded to the prey-and-rock pile.

"What?" Ravenpaw snapped. "Are you going to chat?"

"You shouldn't train as a warrior." Snailpaw snarled. "Back down."

Ravenpaw lifted his head. "Of course I'll train as a warrior! You have no right to tell me I can't!"
