"They really seem to like each other." Foxtail meowed.
Ravenpaw rolled his blind eyes. Was that what every cat spoke about? Hollowstep and Snailclaw being close? Foxtail nudged Ravenpaw fondly.
"Jealous much?" The ginger warrior meowd.
Ravenpaw felt his hackles rise, and his fur grow hot. "Certainly not! I don't care if the two have kits or such."
He stood up, not wanting to hear more of Foxtail's chatting. He wished that he could block out all the chatting the Clan was doing. He usually liked it when the Clan grew close together like this, but not if they speak about Hollowstep and Snailclaw!
"Ravenpaw!"
Ravenpaw felt his ears grow red. He was completely ignoring the Clan deputy, Windtuft!
"Sorry! What were you saying?"
"I was saying if you were okay." Windtuft asked softly.
Ravenpaw shook his head. He tried not to burst out all his angriness onto Windtuft's paws. He meowed simply. "I'm tired."
Ravenpaw awoke in StarClan's hunting grounds. The scent of prey mingled in his nose.
"StarClan! I'm ready! Grant me the ability to see!" he yowled.
Foxclaw grew near him. "Yes, young warrior. We will. But like this we cannot. You must go to the Moonpool yourself."
Now? Ravenpaw felt his heart pang.
"Go now." Foxclaw meowed.
Ravenpaw raced on the moor. He had taken Foxclaw's word. He could hear the distant roars of the Thunderpath. Somehow, he knew where the Moonpool was. Was a StarClan warrior leading him? He soon grappled up a hill and entered a small cave. The icy cold air sunk his short black fur. He could feel the aura of the Moonpool.
Ravenpaw crouched down, touching his nose with the blue-crystal pool. Soon he awoke in the StarClan hunting grounds again.
"You are ready." Foxclaw meowed softly as she padded to him.
Ravenpaw lifted his head, nodding slowly. Soon a small cat appeared, Hopkit!
Ravenpaw stared at his mother's dead littermate. The small kit's black and ginger fur was fluffed out proudly as he stared at him.
"Hello. You never met me, I'm Hopkit, I wish to live beside your mother." He whispered.
I'm sorry you didn't live long, Ravenpaw wanted to meow out. But Foxclaw interrupted him.
She bent down and touched her nose with his. Ravenpaw felt life swirl in him, reaching all his body parts. Then turned to agonizing pain, Ravenpaw gripped the ground, he stripped off a bit of ground. Ravenpaw wanted to yowl loudly, more life rushed through him. His limbs grew weak and he felt like collapsing onto the ground.
Eventually the pain wore off and he felt better, weak, but better.
"Safe travels." Foxclaw whispered.
Ravenpaw opened his eyes, the gray stone was in front of him. Crystal waters by his nose. He sprang to his paws, he could see! Ravenpaw raced down the hill, heathers, grass, thunderpath. He could see everything!
He soon reached camp. Early enough that cats were stirring. He raced through the secret entranced and up the apprentices' den. He curled to sleep, yawning. It seemed like a moon until Bristlenose called him outside the den.
She'll be so surprised! Ravenpaw opened his eyes, unfamiliar with his new sight, but he scrambled out. Bristlenose's eyes grew round when he saw Ravenpaw focusing on her. But she seemed to shrug it off.
Ravenpaw padded closer. "Here. You have a leaf stuck to you." He flicked the leaf off with his muzzle.
"How—how did you see the leaf?" Bristlenose gasped.
"StarClan's blessing." He purred.
"Follow me!" She yowled, scampering down the mountain. Ravenpaw grunted and took after her.
Bristlenose scrambled onto the center of the camp. She yowled loudly. "Ravenpaw can see now!"
Ravenpaw felt his pelt grow hot with embarrassment as cats surrounding him. So many pelts of different colors! Would he remember all? Ravenpaw duck his head, trying to escape from the circle of cats around him.
Hollowstep's fur brushed his. Ravenpaw stared at the pretty brown she-cat. He felt his pelt grow hot.
"You can see!" Hollowstep purred.
Ravenpaw nodded, outstanded at Hollowstep. Foxtail stood beside Ravenpaw, her ginger fur glowed brightly in the dim light.
"You can see! How?" She asked.
"StarClan blessing!" Ravenpaw mewed loudly.
Featherstar scrambled onto the Meeting Tree. "Stop surrounding Ravenpaw all of you. We should be happy our Clan has a cat who was blessed by StarClan. Ravenpaw, I expect
you train and hunt real hard since you have eyesight now."
Ravenpaw nodded rapidly. Of course he would!
Ravenpaw scrambled down the mountain. Hungriness bit his stomach and since Newleaf was here there was plenty of prey! He picked out a mouse until he heard cats hissing quietly to each other.
"Keep quiet, Petalbreeze!" A voice snarled.
Ravenpaw turned to see, Petalbreeze, Hollowstep, and Foxtail. Ravenpaw swallowed the last of the mouse. He cocked his head questionably at the three cats.
"Beetlewing has been leaving the warriors' den a lot." Hollowstep meowed. "I don't think he's going to do dirt." Her amber eyes worried.
"Let's follow him then." Ravenpaw meowed, now that he could see: he was helpful!
The four cats scrambled out the camp. Following Beetlewing's scent. He grunted as his paws got stuck on a dip in the ground, Hollowstep helped him up, her eyes staring at him fondly. Ravenpaw brushed the embarrassment off him, he could see shapes moving near the river.
They got closer and hid by a bush. Outside the bush, Thicketstripe was sitting by the shore. On the other side, a plump gray warrior swam over to her. Purring loudly. The two cats brushed noses. Ravenpaw wrinkled his nose in disgust.
"Hey!" A voice hissed. He turned and saw Beetlewing hiding in another bush. The four cats crept over to him. Petalbreeze giving her brother a sharp cuff over the ear. Beetlewing snorted and meowed. "Thicketstripe has been meeting this tom for moons!" He mewed. "I've been following her."
"Why?" Foxtail asked, eyes round.
"I don't know! I believe his name is Spadeclaw." Beetlewing meowed.
Ravenpaw wanted to bounce to his feet, confronting the two, but he kept hidden. Suddenly, Spadeclaw mewed: "Do you smell that?"
"Yes. I do smell it. A cat from my Clan. It seems like cats." Thicketstripe gasped.
Ravenpaw felt someone push his rump. He turned to face Petalbreeze.
"Watch it!" He hissed.
Petalbreeze paid no attention. "Go! Before they see us!"
They scampered out the bush, Beetlewing led them to a rabbit warren. Ravenpaw felt darkness engulf him. He could hear the two cats meowing loudly outside. He panted, that was closer . . . too close!
