"Come on Hollowstep. Let's go hunting!" Snailclaw sneered.

Hollowstep shook her head. "I'm sorry, Snailclaw, I'm not hunting with you today."

Snailclaw let out a frustrated hiss, stomping off. Ravenpaw tried to not let a purr of satisfaction as he watched the brown tom. Ravenpaw scrambled onto his feet, only to be thrown to the floor.

Claweye smirked. "Sorry. Didn't see you there." He mewed, mischievous.

"No. . .no it's fine." Ravenpaw smirked back, padding away.

He trotted over to Bristlenose, the gray she-cat's fur looked dull and ruffled as if she had not cleaned her pelt for moons. He frowned, nudging. Bristlenose looked up from where she watched Rainleaf.

"Yes?" She rasped, not keeping her eyes off him.

"You look tired. Why don't you go to sleep?" And clean your pelt while you're at it, he added to himself quietly. Bristlenose looked away from where she watched Rainleaf, her eyes piercing onto Ravenpaw's. Ravenpaw felt uneasiness crawling in his fur.

Finally, the gray tabby nodded and stood up. Ravenpaw watched as she stumbled up the mountains. Snailclaw's voice was heard behind him, he huffed knowing that he would bring trouble.

"Just because you have eyes doesn't mean you're so great." Snailclaw snarled. "Remember: you're still an apprentice."

"You've only been a warrior for half a moon!" Ravenpaw sniffed. "I'm sorry you're the jealous one."

Ravenpaw followed his patrol down the moor. Wind ruffled his fur, he winced as flakes of dirt hit his eyes. Snailclaw was beside him, keeping a well distance from him. Let him eat his own fur! Ravenpaw thought bitterly.

They were remarking the CloudClan border until a loud yowl split the air and a bunch of cats swarmed them, snarling. Ravenpaw leaped back, eyes round, as he saw the cats. They were CloudClan! Foxtail yelped, eyes wide.

He staggered over to his sister. Unsheathing his claws and swiping them at the cats. The cats didn't flinch, just continued staring. Claweye, who was leading the patrol, stared at them.

"What do you want?" The mottled brown tom snarled, his hackles rising.

"Ravenpaw and Foxpaw."

Ravenpaw unsheathed his claws. Surely they couldn't claim them back? Foxtail was already a warrior.

"You kidnapped them!" Icefrost hissed, eyes round with sadness.

"We left at our own will." Foxtail spat. "We're not living with you anymore!"

Ravenpaw unsheathed his claws, ready to fight. The CloudClan patrol kept their furious eyes on the two.

"Ravenpaw, you seem different. . ." Sunstar mewed softly.

Ravenpaw stared at Sunstar's glowing tabby fur. He just shrugged.

"CliffClan attack!" Claweye yowled.

Ravenpaw yowled, leaping onto Pigeonpaw. Pigeonpaw snarled as Ravenpaw drew his claws over his chest. The two cats wriggled around on the floor, hissing and spitting. Pigeonpaw stood up and began to duck his blows.

"How are you seeing me?" Pigeonpaw gasped for breath.

Ravenpaw tore a tuft of fur off Pigeonpaw's ear. His teeth bared. "StarClan's blessing!"

He lunged for his neck, biting deeply. Pigeonpaw roared with pain, scampering away to the safety of his territory. Ravenpaw spat as he saw Duskfall fighting with Foxtail, they threw blows at each other. Ravenpaw knew that the gray warrior was too strong for her, but Foxtail's slim body was quick.

Ravenpaw leaped beside her. Digging his teeth into Duskfall's paw. Thank StarClan I can see! He wanted to yowl out. Foxtail fluffy tail tripped Duskfall. Duskfall yelped, falling onto the peaty ground. Ravenpaw pinned him down, sinking his teeth on his shoulder.

Duskfall wriggled out, leaping away. Ravenpaw panted, his fur stained with blood. He saw Snailclaw batting a strong warrior, he yowled with horror as the strong warrior, Talonclaw, had knocked him down.

He snarled, leading the warrior away from Snailclaw's body. He sniffed Snailclaw's terribly wounded body. Blood pooled from a wound in his stomach, his breathing raspy. Tears filled Ravenpaw's eyes.

"Snailclaw's terribly wounded!" Ravenpaw told Claweye.

Claweye kept his eye on the cat he battled. Loudly, he yowled out. "Surrender Sunstar!"

Sunstar spat. "Today you win. Next time: claim yourself as dead!"

Ravenpaw dragged Snailclaw's bloodied body into camp. Yowls of surprise filled the camp.

"Is he dead?" Sharptail prompted, eyes round.

"No. He's fine." Ravenpaw snapped.

Immediately, Shrewwhisker and Thrushleg scampered out, eyes round. Thrushleg had gotten his full medicine cat name a moon ago.

"Fetch me marigold, cobwebs, and some poppy seeds." Shrewwhisker meowed.

Thrushleg immediately scrambled into the medicine cat den. Ravenpaw padded over to them.

"We were attacked by CloudClan!" He panted.

Foxtail flicked her tail. "But we beat them. They don't stand a chance!"

He glanced warily over Shrewwhisker's shoulder. Snailclaw's breathing was growing slower. Oh StarClan no!

"Is he going to die?" Ravenpaw prompted.

"I can't tell the future." Shrewwhisker mumbled, adding marigold.

Ravenpaw sniffed. "Shouldn't you add some comfrey? He seems to be in pain."

Shrewwhisker kept her eye on Snailclaw. "Yes. Go find me some."

Ravenpaw raced to her den. Sniffing her storage. He didn't recognize the herbs by sight. He closed his eyes and searched for the root, eventually he picked up the familiar scent and grasped it in his jaws. Scampering out.

He dropped the comfrey root beside Shrewwhisker. Shrewwhisker nodded and used the herb. Hollowstep's fur brushed his, Ravenpaw glanced at her.

"You're a medicine cat apprentice now?" She purred.

Ravenpaw felt his fur grow hot. "No way! I'm a warrior, and you know it!"

There had been four sunrises after the CloudClan attack. Ravenpaw had heard Shrewwhisker talking about how Snailclaw was getting weaker. He can't die! He's too young! Despite how annoying he was, he didn't deserve to die.

Out the corner of his eye, he saw sunset patrol entering.

"Intruders!" Petalbreeze spat.

Ravenpaw turned to face two cats that were being led to Featherstar's den. Ravenpaw's eyes were round with curiosity. Beetlewing who stepped away from sunset patrol to eat looked up from a vole he chewed on.

"What's going on?" Ravenpaw prompted.

Beetlewing swallowed more of his vole. "We found two intruders on our territory."

Ravenpaw snarled angrily. "How dare they?"

He scrambled over to the leader's den, waiting for Featherstar to emerge. Once the leader emerged, the two cats were behind him. Ravenpaw saw one bright ginger she-cat with white fur and a thick-furred black tom.

There was something familiar about these two cats that he could not grasp on.

"Ravenkit? Is that you?" The ginger she-cat gasped.

"I'm Ravenpaw. How do you know my name?"

The ginger she-cat did not keep her eyes off him. "I'm your mother: Lightspark!"
