Ravenpaw raced down the slope. He needed to collect the watermint Fernleaf told him. He remembered where it was, right by the river: hidden by the reeds. Ravenpaw felt his limbs ache with tiredness. The muddy grounds began to swallow up his paws. Ravenpaw frowned, plucking out the herb.

He picked as much as he could and then padded away. But he sniffed a scent. CliffClan! He ran to the border, eyes wide, sniffing the long grass. As he stepped forward the herbs fell off his jaws and the earth swallowed his paws up viciously. Ravenpaw felt himself sinking into the mud.

Ravenpaw thrashed, yowling for help until the dirt began to pile up in his mouth. He choked. Ravenpaw moved more, before he knew it, the last of him sunk into the muddy ground. Is this it? Is this how I die? He wanted to wail.

Strong jaws clamped his scruff and Ravenpaw was pulled out. He spat out the mud that entered his mouth, desperately wheezing for air. Tongue met his fur, licking the grit of him. That wasn't his.

"Ravenpaw you're okay!"

Ravenpaw's eyes grew round with relief. It was Hollowpaw. He missed her very much. Ravenpaw tucked his muzzle under her chin, he smelled in her sweet scent of wind and heather.

"I missed you." Ravenpaw admitted.

Hollowpaw purred loudly. "Me too. I still wonder when Featherstar will lead an attack!"

Ravenpaw's heart ached. The CliffClan leader still didn't plan it? His fur pricked up. Hollowpaw nuzzled him.

"I need to go now." She meowed.

Ravenpaw nodded.

Ravenpaw padded back to camp. His muscles sore and pelt covered in soil. Fernleaf raced over to Ravenpaw.

"What in StarClan happened?" She demanded.

Ravenpaw lowered his head. "I drowned in mud."

Berryheart limped out the den. "Like Yellowstar said. We should be more careful!"

Sunstar leaped over to the Meeting Rock, yowling them over.

"From now on we should stay away from the river and if you plan going there make sure to go with someone else that can pull you out if you drown!"

Ravenpaw licked his pelt, the dirt was hardening and it crunched with a few movements. He sighed. This wouldn't have happened if CloudClan didn't claim him.

Foxpaw raced over to Ravenpaw. His sister sniffed him.

"You're 0kay! And . . . is that Hollowpaw's scent on you?" Foxpaw gasped.

"Yeah. She saved me." Ravenpaw mewed simply. He cringed at the way he nuzzled the brown she-cat, if Foxpaw had seen she would have taunted him. Ravenpaw smoothened his fur, standing up.

Foxpaw pressed against Ravenpaw. "Why don't we share a mouse?"

"Wait!" Fernleaf called out, she gave Ravenpaw a few poppy seeds.

Ravenpaw licked the poppy seeds off eagerly, nodding to Fernleaf. Foxpaw led Ravenpaw to the tree that offered them shelter. Instead of a mouse, Foxpaw brought him a squirrel. Ravenpaw wrinkled his nose. He didn't like those foul creatures.

Hungriness tore his stomach. He immediately munched the squirrel, swallowing it quickly. Once he finished, he felt his eyes drooping with sleepiness. He flicked his tail, meowing good-bye at Foxpaw, only to be stopped by Mousepaw.
