Summer Danvers
"Hey, um, don't you think you should talk to Raymond?" Phoebe says and I look at her in surprise.
"What?" I say.
"I mean, he might have his own point of view on everything. Don't they matter?" Phoebe says. And I raise an eyebrow.
"What's up with all this sticking up for Raymond?" I question, raising an eyebrow.
"What? Oh, nothing. I was just wondering, you know, maybe he wants to tell you something that-"
"I've already talked to him. But what did I expect? He just spills lies. Saying that he-" I say but is interrupted immediately by Phoebe.
"What if he wasn't? What if he was right? What if he was actually telling the truth? You don't know-"
"No, I already talked to him, and things just aren't going to work out between us, okay? And-
"Imagine how you would feel if you were dumped because of some celebrity?" Phoebe shouts, making a few people look towards our direction.
"Guys-" Brittany starts but I interrupt.
"I didn't dump him because of Sean! I dumped him because he cheated on me!"
"Well what if he didn't? You're just assuming that he-"
"Why are you defending Raymond all of a sudden? You believed me before!" I almost yell, and at the corner of my eye, I see Ray looking at us too. But that's the least of my worries.
"Because! I just realised that maybe he might be right!"
"Really, then why didn't you realise that like, last week?"
"I don't know! Maybe you would realise that if you weren't the one kissing your new boyfriend every minute of the day!" Phoebe shouts.
"I don't kiss him everyday! I don't even see him everyday! Are you jealous or something?"
"Uh, no. Why would I be?"
"I don't know, why don't you ask that to yourself?" I snap. I didn't even expect us to fall out. If Phoebe hadn't mentioned this in the first place and maybe we would be fine.
"You know what? You don't even listen to any of your friends do you?"
"Of course I do! Do you?"
"Yeah of course I do, what makes you say that?"
"Maybe the fact that you're not even listening to me, the fact that you're defending someone else who isn't your friend. The fact that you-"
"Just! Shut up!" Phoebe shouts. "Whatever, I don't even care anymore. Just... Whatever." Phoebe storms out of the cafeteria. I look around, and sink slowly into my seat. Brittany's looking at me dumbstruck. I wouldn't blame her. I don't even know what's just happened either.
***
"Maybe she's just having a bad day." Brittany suggests as we head into the cafeteria. It was only yesterday since Phoebe and I had our fight, and I keep thinking about it.
"Maybe." I say. We both grab a tray and some food and sit at our normal table. We start eating when something catches our attention. Phoebe, yes, Phoebe is with Savannah, sitting at her table, in a cheerleader uniform, and with a cake of make up on her face. She's laughing at something, and Savannah smiles at her, and I just can't help but stare. "What the.... Is that? Is that.... Phoebe? What the hell is she doing there?" Brittany whispers.
"Maybe she had no other friends to hang out with and Savannah was her only option." I force out a laugh, just as Savannah and Phoebe look at us and then snicker, then they stand up, and start walking in a direction that seems suspiciously like the direction of our table.
"Um, are they coming towards us?"
"Yeah. I think so. Just ignore them." I say. But it's sort of hard to ignore them if they're constantly snickering and giggling.
"Hey, Summer. Brittany." Savannah says and we both look up.
"Hey." I say.
"You know-" Phoebe starts but is interrupted by the bell.
"Well, we better get going, I'm a busy person and we have way better things to do than this." I say, and stand up.
"Ugh, whatever, Summer." Phoebe says and they both walk away. Is that seriously the best comeback Phoebe could think of? Pathetic.
"What has Savannah done to her?" Brittany asks, as we both stare at the pair walking away.
"Changed her into... Into... That." I say.
"That's never a good thing."
