Raymond Elliot
"So how did the date go?" I hear Brittany ask Summer.
"It was okay...."
"Who was he? Are you going with him to the dance?" Brittany fires questions.
"Okay, one question at a time." Summer laughs.
"Who was he?" Brittany asks excitedly.
"Um.... Hugh.... Hugh Macilwain?" Summer says and Brittany's excited face immediately turns into a scowl.
Wait... She went on a date with Hugh Macilwain? Summer always told me she found him so annoying and would never even think of dating him.
"What the hell? Are you freaking kidding me? It was Hugh Macilwain? M-my cousin?" Brittany says in disbelief. "Are we talking about the same Hugh Macilwain here, or..."
"Yes, Brittany." Summer laughs. "We're talking about the same Hugh Macilwain. Your cousin." Brittany's mouth drops open in surprise and Summer laughs.
"Hey, he's actually not that bad." Summer laughs.
What?! You said he was really bad, you said that he was annoying and that you would never even consider dating him! Remember?
"Psh, bad? He's really bad." Brittany scoffs. I agree.
"No, he's actually okay now." Okay? He's everything but okay.
"Anyway, please tell me you two aren't going to the dance together."
"Uh, we sort of are." Summer says slowly.
"Oh god." Brittany face palms.
"Don't worry, it'll be fun."
"It'll be anything but fun."
"Aw, come on Brittany." Summer coos and I close my locker and walk away. Once again, I'm too late. To late to get the girl I've always wanted. To late to get the girl that's so hard to get.

I walk out of the school, in search of my dad's car. But I feel a hand grab my arm and I turn around to see...
"Hey, Raymond." Savannah flutters her eyelashes.
"Hi." I say.
"Who are you going to the dance with?"
"No one."
"I know someone you could go with." Savannah says.
"Nah, I'm going alone."
"What? Why?"
"Because. I am. It's none of your business anyway." I say.
"Well.... I think you could go with-" Savannah stops in the middle of her sentence as she freezes as she stares behind me. I turn around to see just a bunch of people from my school walk past.
"What... What's wrong?" I say and look behind me again.
"Oh... Uh, nothing." Savannah says quickly. "Anyway, see you around." I frown and look behind me, but don't see anything different or anything. I shrug and hop in dad's car.
"Hi dad."
"Hi son." Dad says as he starts the engine up.
Dad and I just talk about random stuff until we get home, and I head upstairs and into my room. For some reason, I reach for my phone and scroll down my messages. I press on 'Summer' and my fingers hover over the keypad.
Wait... What am I gonna say? What the hell, Ray. You don't even have anything to freaking say! It's none of your business who she's going with to the dance. It's none of your business, it's none of your business...
"Hi, Ray." I turn around to see my sister standing at the doorway.
"Hi, Jess."
"What ya doing?"
"Oh... Um...." I turn my phone off my and put it in my pocket.
"Who were you texting?"
"No one." I say.
"Aw, come on! Who were you texting?"
"No one!" I say again.
"Okay, okay. So what's up?"
"What?"
"Seriously, little bro, I know if there's something up." Jess smirks, and sings what she says next. "I can see it in your eyes."
"Oh shut up." I say, and bury my face onto my bed. Argh, why does my sister have to know me so well? I lift my head up, and compose myself. "Nothing's up."
"Pshhhh. You actually expect me to believe you? I'm not that dumb." Jess laughs and I scowl. "Stop changing the subject. What's wrong?"
"Ugh, fine." I say and spill every detail. Okay, maybe not every detail.
"Oh..... Well.... Does she actually like this Hugh guy or is she going with him because she has no one else to go with?"
"That's what I want to know."
"Oh." Jess says thoughtfully.

"Hey man." One of the guys from my football team greets as I take a seat in the cafeteria with my food.
"Hey." I say briskly as I start eating.
"I dared Luke here, to ask this girl called Penelope or something-"
"Phoebe." Luke corrects sternly.
"Whatever, same thing, man. Anyway, he asked her to go to dance as a dare and she said yes. And she doesn't even know that it's a dare! It's crack up, man." One of the guys say and I grin as I look at Luke, who doesn't look like he's finding this funny at all.
"What's up, man?" I ask and he just shrugs, putting on a forced smile.
