Summer Danvers

"Hey Summer, I just wanted to apologise about last time." Sophie says to me as we walk out of Social Studies together.

"Yeah, okay." I shrug off. "I guess I'm sorry too."

"Don't worry about it." Sophie smiles. "And I just want to tell you something before you go."

"Yeah?"

"Um, I know this was a long time ago, but...... About the kiss with Raymond ages ago that was in the newspaper.... Well, you know, the kiss was..... The kiss wasn't real." Sophie says slowly.

"What are you talking about, of course the kiss was real." I say flatly, walking fast to get to my locker.

"No, I didn't mean it like that, it was just.." Sophie sighs. "I liked him back then, and I kind of still do, but Ray told me that he didn't like me in that way so I just have to try to get over it. And back then, I don't know, the photographers are like, oh, you should kiss for the photo and I don't know what came over me, I just.... Kissed him. I didn't know that you two were dating back then, I didn't even think about it."

"W-wait, so you're saying that Ray never....." I gulp, stopping in my tracks. "That Ray never-"

"No, he didn't. It was all a big misunderstanding."

"Oh."

"Yeah. I just wanted you to know that, Summer."

"Oh.... I never knew...." I trail off. I remember when countless times, Ray had tried to explain to me about the kiss but I wouldn't listen.

"Yeah. And don't worry, I won't try anything, and like, he actually told me straight to my face that he didn't like me that way."

"And the reason you're telling me this is....?" I raise an eyebrow.

"W-well.... U-um...."

"Because he asked you too?" I ask. Sophie opens her mouth to protest but I interrupt. "That's what I thought. But thanks, anyway. For telling me."

"You don't believe me?"

"I do. I do believe you. But I didn't think you would just come up to me and tell me that. Of course someone told you to tell me. But thanks, anyway."

"You won't tell him, will you?" Sophie asks.

"What?"

"Don't tell him that you know. He really likes you, Summer. Give him a chance."

"Where's Phoebe?" Brittany asks.

"I'm not sure....." I trail off as I look around.

"Oh! There she is! Phoebe!" Brittany shouts and Phoebe, who has her dark brown hair over some of her face, walks over towards us. "Phoebe what happened to you?" Brittany asks, pushing Phoebe's hair away from her face.

"Oh my god, I didn't know that I was that worthless." Phoebe mutters. When Brittany pulls all the hair out of Phoebe's face, I see a tear stained face, with mascara running down her cheeks.

"Phoebe! What happened to you?" I ask in surprise.

"L-Luke....." Phoebe says slowly. "It was true that he.... He..... He asked me to the dance because of a dare."

"What?" Brittany shrieks and all I can do I look around the cafeteria for Luke. I see him, and he's looking directly back at me, and he gives me a small smile. How can he smile, when he was just playing with one of my best friends' feelings? Phoebe really liked Luke, and she thought that he liked her too when he asked her to the dance, and she was so happy.

"Really?"

"Yeah." Phoebe nods.

"How did you find out?" Brittany asks softly.

"I overheard some guys taking about it. But I know this time for sure it's me and Luke they're talking about."

"Wait.... Bur you still don't know for sure." Brittany frowns.

"Well who else is named Penelope or something and went to the dance with Luke?" Phoebe mutters.

"Phoebe...." I say softly, putting my arms around her.

"I thought he actually liked me." Phoebe whispers.

"Phoebs, you deserve better than him, there's so many other hot guys out there for you." Brittany says.

"But I thought he was.... He was the one, you know?" Phoebe sighs.

"I'll go talk to him." I say, and stand up.

"No.... Summer.... It's... It's okay."

"No, you're not okay Phoebe, and it's not nice to have your feelings played with." I say, and stand up and walk over to where Luke was sitting. "Hey Luke?" I say sweetly, and he looks up at me. "Can I talk to you for a sec?"

"Um, sure." Luke says, and I look at Ray, and all the other guys.

"Excuse us, boys." I say, and walk out of the cafeteria, with Luke following behind.
