Raymond Elliot
I walk into the gym and look around. There are heaps of couples dancing to the slow song. But my eyes trail over to someone in particular. There, I see Summer in a purple dress, and she's left her hair wavy and natural today. She looks pretty when she leaves it natural and does nothing to it. But the only thing weird about the picture is how Hugh Macilwain has his hands on her waist and she has her hands around his neck, both swaying to the music. They're talking, and Hugh says something which makes Summer stop dancing. She looks at Hugh, and mumbles something and she walks away from him, towards the girls toilets. I sigh and head over to where all the food is, and put a chip into my mouth.
"Hey, Ray." A voice says behind me. With one hand in my pocket, I turn around slowly. There, I see Savannah in a strapless white dress, with heaps of little diamond studs at the top of the dress. She has her hair out, and she actually looks quite hot. She takes a step closer to me, and that's when I notice that her dress has a slit in the fabric.
"Hi." I say.
"Who did you come to the dance with?" Savannah asks, picking up a cup of fizzy.
"No one." I say. "I told you, I was coming alone."
"Oh. Same."
"Oh." I say, when something catches my eye. "Well, I have to go." I say quickly and I half walk and jog after Summer who's heading out of the gym. When I step outside, immediately the cold breeze hits my face. I blink and see Summer standing outside the gym, rubbing her arm, looking really cold. I quickly take my jacket off and drape it around her shoulders. She looks at me in shock. "Hey." I say.
"W-what are you doing here?" Summer says. My eyes trail down to her lips, but I quickly readjust my eyes to her own.
"I.... I needed some air." I lie.
"Oh."
"What are you doing here?"
"I..... I guess I needed some air too." Summer says, giving me a small smile. The smile that melts me, and the smile that also makes me want to just kiss her.
"Well... Aren't you... Aren't you cold?" I look at her in concern.
"A little." She says slowly, as she shudders a bit as a strong gust of wind comes past. I put an arm around her, and pull her close to me. I feel her tense up, but she soon relaxes, as she leans her head on my chest. I smile, that she's finally warming up to me again. "Who... Who did you come with?" Summer asks.
"No one. I came alone." I say and she looks up at me.
"What? Why?"
"Because." I say. "Because the girl I wanted to go with was already going with someone else." I say.
"Oh......"
"What did he say to you, anyway? What made you run to the toilets?" I say.
"What? You saw that?" Summer looks up at me again, eyes wide.
"Yeah." I breathe. "So what did he say?" I say, a tinge of anger in my voice.
"Nothing." Summer says. I frown. Why would she lie to me? "Nothing important." She says.
"But.... You...." I pause. I guess it's not my business. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah." She breathes, then she pulls away from me. "I...." She gives me back my jacket. "I should head back inside." She says quickly and walks in, her purple dress flowing behind her. I sigh as I put my jacket on and I walk inside too.
"Hey, everyone!" A familiar voice says and I look up on stage, to see Savannah holding a microphone. "I've just had a request sent in, for those of you who came alone, this is your chance to dance with someone! So all boys go to the left side of the hall, and girls go to the right, and we'll turn all the lights off and you have to find someone the opposite gender in the dark and you have to dance with them. We'll probably do this a couple of times, so everyone, to places!" Savannah says as she rushes down the stairs to the right side, joining all the girls. The lights go out, and I slowly start walking, my hands reached out in front of me. I feel someone else's hands touch mine and we hold hands, and the lights turn on and I realise the person that's holding my hands is Savannah. "Hey, Ray." She says, fluttering her eyelashes. She puts her hands on my shoulders, and I put mine on her waist and we start dancing to the music.
"Hi, Savannah." I say.
"Hey." She giggles. "You know... You look really hot tonight, I bet I'm not the first girl to say that to you tonight though."
"Thanks." I say. I glance sideways to see Summer dancing with another guy, and she glances at me, and our eyes lock for second, before Savannah turns my head towards her.
"Hey. Forget about her." Savannah says.
"What?"
"Just.... Zone her out and just concentrate on what you're doing."
"I-" I'm cut off by Savannah leaning in and kissing me on the lips, our lips moving in sync. We've stopped dancing, and I'm cupping her face in my hands while we kiss, and she has her hands in my hair. A moan escapes her lips while I kiss her, and then I realise who I'm kissing right now, and I quickly pull away.
"You know you want to." Savannah whispers as she leans in again but I stop her.
"We're only dancing together. We're not here to make out, Savannah." I say.
"Okay! Everyone find another partner!" Someone says over the speaker and the lights go out again and I search for another girl. My hands touch something, it feels like an arm, so I grab it, and the lights turn on, and my mouth nearly drops open when I see who it is.
Summer Danvers.
"Uh, hey." I say, letting go of her arm.
"Hey." She says.
"Oi! You two! Dance!" One of the people from our school shouts over the mic. One of Summer's hands meet mine and one of her hand goes on my shoulder and mine goes on her waist. We start swaying to the music.
"I...." I trail off as I take in her appearance, her blonde waves cascading down her back and down the sides. "Did I mention you look amazing tonight?" I whisper.
"W-what?" Summer stutters.
"I said," I say, leaning in closer. "You look stunning tonight."
"Oh." Summer blushes. "Thanks. You don't look that bad yourself."
"Well, what can say?" I joke and Summer laughs a little. God, how I've missed making her laugh.
