Summer Danvers
"Okay, so." Kain, Sean's manager says. "I think we need to do something about this." He holds up a magazine, pictures of me and Sean kissing everywhere on the front cover. Oh my god. How could I have forgotten? Paparazzi are everywhere, and I.... How could I be so stupid?
"Yes, and I have an idea." One of Sean's agents speaks up. "Maybe they should pretend they're dating, and then the publicity about the news will die down, then, they can say they're breaking up, and then Sean will get his fans again."
"I don't know..... Summer's going to get questions..... You know, at school, at home, you know...." Layla trails off. And she's right about that. People are bound to ask questions. I mean, I wouldn't blame them. If someone I knew went out with Sean Carter then I would definitely ask questions.
"We'll send security over so wherever Summer goes, they'll be with her......?" Another one of Sean's agents says.
"No, that will send even more rumours around. That Summer doesn't want to be talked to, or something like that." Another agent says.
"Well, maybe if people ask Summer, then she should just agree. I mean, once she agrees to a few people, rumours will spread around, right?" I kind of zone out, kicking myself for even getting myself into this mess. Argh, why does this have to get so complicated?!
"Summer? What do you think?" Layla asks me, interrupting me from my thoughts.
"Hm, sorry, what?" I ask.
"Um, do you want to pretend to date Sean?"
"W.... What?!" I say.
"Do I really have to repeat this again?"
"Sorry. I heard you. But.... What do I tell people? Do I just agree?" I say.
"We'll talk about that later." Layla says. "I'm sorry, Summer. But I don't think you have much of a choice. It looks like this is our only way of getting out of this situation we're in right now."
"Oh." Is all I can manage to say.
"Anyway, I'll contact you guys soon, and hopefully everyone gets on with the next big news." Layla concludes, and we head out of the room. Layla takes me to my dressing room.
"Layla, can I tell my mom? My friends? Can I tell anyone at all? How can I pretend to date him? What's the point in doing this? I don't how it helps. Won't it just get more and more people interested in Sean's life?" I bombard her with questions.
"Okay, one at a time Summer. Calm down. First of all, you can't tell anyone. Not even your friends. I mean, they could tell anyone."
"But they're my friends!" I say. "I trust them."
"No, you can't."
"What about my mom?" I say.
"Well..... You can tell your mom. Your mom only though. We don't want anyone to know that you guys are fake dating."
"But still, they're my friends."
"Summer, what if someone else hears you telling them? If the news gets out, then it'll get even more people interested than they already were in the first place."
"How does me fake dating him help all of the publicity of the news? Seriously, it'll just get more people interested." I say, trying to get her to change her mind. I mean, if I pretend to date him, everyone at school will think I'm actual dating him, right? Which I'm not. And then all my friends will question me, and then Savannah will get mad at me because I'll be the news of the school, and there are so many problems that will come up. I'm sure of it.
"That's what you might think, but it's the opposite. The thing about celebrities like Sean, who's only fifteen, and he could get together with anyone, and so he has so many girl fans everywhere. So, if he dates someone, some of his fans are bound to not like him and become an anti fan. Hopefully some other celebrity has some big news and then that other celebrity can be the gossip of everyone. But when Sean announces he's not dating you anymore, they might not like him anymore. But we've got to take that into consideration by getting him to date you. But is the fact that you two have been kissed is kept secret, it's just going to get more and more publicity every second."
"Oh." I let out a small sigh.
"Yeah, I know it's a lot to take, Summer."
"For how long? For how long will we have to fake date each other?"
"Just until the publicity dies down. In the meantime, I think you might need to break up with your boyfriend." Layla says. I get a little confused at first at what she means.
"Oh, that's not going to be a problem." I say quickly.
"Oh? Why not? Did you two break up?"
"Uh, yeah. But don't worry about it. It's fine."
"Okay, if you say so." Layla says.
***
"Are you...... Are you okay?"
"Hm, what?" I look up.
"Are you okay?" Sean repeats.
"What, oh, oh! Yeah I'm fine." I stutter.
"You'll be back on in five." One of the crew tells us and we nod.
"Of course you're not fine. I'm so sorry Summer. This is all my fault." Sean sits next to me.
"No, it's not entirely your fault." I sigh.
"It is. I shouldn't have asked you to hang out with me in the first place, let alone in public."
"Well...." I say, and we both stay silent. "I guess it was kind of my fault too."
"I....." He starts. "I shouldn't have kissed you." We both stay in silence for a few minutes or so, both of not knowing what to say.
"I.... Sean, I-" I start but is interrupted by one of the crew, calling is back onto set. We start walking when I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, Summer?" I spin around to see Layla. "Can you see me afterwards?" I nod. "You too, Sean."
"Okay." Sean says. The rest of the time on set was basically going over a few scenes that Adam wasn't really happy about. Afterwards, I head over to where Layla's standing.
"So, you wanted to.... See me?" I say.
"Yeah. We'll just wait for Sean."
"I'm here." Sean says.
"Oh! Right then. So I was thinking, maybe since you two are supposed to be dating, maybe you two should go on dates. You know, just to get the news out there." Layla says, looking at the both of us. "What do you say?"
"Um......" I say, looking at the ground. Layla looks at the both of us expectantly but we both stay quiet.
"Okay, I know maybe it'll be a little awkward, but we do need to get the news out there right?" Layla says, looking at the two of us again. We both stay silent. What comes out of Sean's lips next surprises me.
"Okay. We'll do it. When?" Sean says.
"Just when you two have time. But make it soon."
