Gemma had Lyla, Isabella, and Tara help her with making dinner for the clubhouse that night. Isabella didn't mind it at all. She liked chatting with the other women. Tara seemed annoyed especially since her husband had been injured while they were out. She just wanted to stay with her boys and keep them safe. Isabella was happy to learn the children ate first, then the women, and then the men. Once the meal was ready, Lyla got down paper plates while Isabella got out plasticware for people to use. Gemma called everyone to dinner. Those with small children made their plates. The older children made their own plates while the women stood in line to make theirs.
Once Isabella had her plate, she moved to sit with her husband and Chibs. The Scot greeted her with a nod and a smile earning the same in return. She waited for her husband to have his plate before digging into her dinner. She asked Chibs about his homeland which he was happy to tell her about. Isabella was shocked to discover his wife and child had essentially been stolen from him by an associate of the club's. Chibs just shrugged and said that one day he would have to atone for his crimes. He changed the subject and asked how their honeymoon had gone. Happy just smirked but she was more than excited to talk about all the things they had done while there besides lounging around on the beach. Chibs was happy his brother had such a good time away from the club.
Most people just sat around chatting, telling jokes, and having drinks after dinner. Isabella kissed Happy's cheek and said she was going to take a quick shower then get settled and watch some TV. He just nodded and went back to the conversation he was having with Chibs. A little past midnight and Happy finally joined his wife in bed. She had already fallen asleep although the TV was still on. He stripped down to his boxers and crawled into bed turning the TV off afterwards. Sometime in the middle of the night Happy was started. He slipped into pj bottoms, grabbed his gun and cautiously walked to the door. Cracking it open the sound of gunfire could be heard.
"Happy? What's going on?" Isabella rubbed her eyes.
"No matter what happens, stay here and keep the door locked. I'll knock on the door when I return." He twisted the lock then stepped out of the room, shutting the door behind him.
He crept down the hall, gun pointed in front of him, heart hammering in his ears, adrenaline already pumping through his veins. Women were cradling their crying children. Bikers were shooting back at those that had somehow infiltrated their sacred compound. Standing at the doorway to the dorms, Happy took aim at the people he didn't know and began to fire his gun. Some head shots. Some he hit in the middle of their backs. Some he only shot in the leg wounding them. Someone would need to be interrogated to find out who and why they had been attacked in the middle of the night.
Isabella sat up in bed with the covers pulled up to her chin and stared at the door. She was scared for the first time since started dating Happy. It felt like forever as she waited for him to return to her. Anything could be happening! Scenario after scenario played in her mind and nothing was good. She hoped he was safe and would keep her safe as he promised. Several more minutes passed by and there came a knock at the door. "Open up, it's just me." she heard Happy's voice tell her. She quickly got up and opened up the door. As soon as he walked into the room, she flung her arms around his waist and pressed herself into his body.
"It's ok. The threat has been taken care of. Although I need to go do some interrogating. I'll be back in a while. You go back to bed." Happy told her as he began to get dressed.
"You have to do this in the middle of the night?" She asked.
"Yes. Don't worry, you're safe now." He replied.
"You know best, sweetie." She quietly stated.
He kissed her forehead after he finished dressing before he left her alone again in his dorm room. She sighed hating that he had to leave the clubhouse in the middle of the night to go interrogate someone. She didn't understand why it couldn't wait until morning. Laying back down, she sighed again. This was the life she signed up for when she got involved with Happy. He needed her to be strong. To be there when he needed her. It took a bit of tossing and turning but she eventually fell back asleep. When she awoke, he wasn't in their room like she hoped he'd be. She got dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans, a cute butterfly wrap-around top, and some wedges then walked out into the clubhouse.
Gemma was in the kitchen with Lyla and another woman she couldn't remember the name of making breakfast. When she walked into the kitchen, she greeted everyone then moved to pour herself a cup of coffee. Not wanting to be in anyone's way, she moved to find herself a seat. After she did, she began looking around. There were tons of bullet holes. Tables and chairs with bullets and bullet holes in them. Some were even still knocked over from earlier. It was a stark reminder of what had transpired the night before. Isabella didn't know how these people just cleaned up and moved on in their lives. They'd been shot at last night! 'Didn't that scare or bother anyone?' she thought as she continued to look around.
Gemma had called everyone to breakfast and Happy still hadn't returned. Isabella was getting worried that something had happened to him. It concerned her that no one else seemed to be worried about him. She was biting on her lower lip as she entered the kitchen to make herself a plate. The Queen could tell there was something bothering the younger woman and thought she'd talk to her later. Chibs and Tig, when they finally made themselves a plate, decided to sit with Happy's 'ol lady. She gave a half-hearted smile making Chibs worry about her.
"Somethin' wrong, lass?" Chibs finally questioned after a few minutes of silence.
"I'm worried about Happy. He still hasn't come back from wherever he went last night." She blurted out making the two men look at one another.
"I assure you, he's alright. He's doing for the club what he does for us. He's very good at it and sometimes it takes a long while for him to get information from who he's interrogating." Tig explained, "He'll come back here as soon as he's done with his job. You're safe here with us if you're worried about that. He wouldn't have left you here if he didn't believe you were."
"He's told me that he's killed people for this club but I never wanted details. Last night was scary. I had no idea what was going on. He forced me to keep the door locked until he returned. Then when he did he said he was leaving to go interrogate someone." She confessed.
"It's ok t' not want the details, lass. Some people are better off not knowin'. The fact that you can overlook the fact that he has killed for this club, and probably will again, speaks volumes about you, Isabella. Last night was...a fluke. When we go on lockdown, people don't usually make their way into the compound. Happy was trying to keep you safe last night to the best of his ability." Chibs stated.
"How do you guys do this?" She looked between the two men.
"It's not an easy life. We chose it. You did too when you decided to get involved with Happy. It can get very violent at times. You just have to be strong and remember that it's not always so violent and scary." Tig offered the young woman.
"I'm sorry. I guess I'm still a little freaked out after last night." She suddenly stated, "Neither of you got hurt last night, did you?"
Chibs just smiled at her, "No, Isabella, we're both fine."
"That's good to hear." She said.
After breakfast, Gemma had the other 'ol ladies and the two prospects cleaning up the clubhouse while Clay called church. Isabella walked over and asked what she could do to help. Tara was reading to her two boys in Jax's dorm room not wanting them to be around all the chaos. Lyla had her son and Opie's kids catching up on homework while sitting on one of the black couches. Gemma looked around and asked Isabella to help wipe down tables and the bar. The prospects were setting upright any tables and chairs that hadn't already been set back up for breakfast. Lyla was sweeping the clubhouse while Gemma oversaw everything.
Happy finally returned covered in blood. Isabella's eyes widened when she got a good look at her husband. She wondered if any of that blood was his as he walked by her. Gemma watched Isabella as she watched her 'ol man head straight to their dorm room. 'I wonder what's going through her mind right now?' Gemma thought as she watched the younger woman carefully. Isabella quickly got back to what she'd been tasked with. Everyone was helping clean up and set the place right again as Clay and the others were busy having church.
