After she got out of surgery, Tara made a quick phone call to Gemma letting her know that Isabella had been brought in with a gunshot wound to her chest. She told the biker Queen about Isabella's surgery and how she was doing at that moment. Gemma was shocked to hear that the sweet young woman had been shot. After getting off the phone with Tara, she immediately went to find her husband. She explained what Tara had told her and that she was headed to the hospital to sit with Happy's 'ol lady. Clay promised they'd have church when Happy and the rest returned and that they'd get to the bottom of things.
Gemma rushed to the hospital and was told Isabella was still in a recovery room and couldn't have visitors. It irritated the Queen greatly but there was nothing she could do. There was one other person there pacing the room. As Gemma looked her over, she realized it was Isabella's mother. She noted how distressed the other woman appeared to be.
"Kay, are you ok?" Gemma questioned.
"No. My husband and daughter were taken into surgery after being shot at work. They're both in recovery and I can't see them. They won't even tell me how they're doing!" The other woman ranted.
"When I was told she'd been shot, I raced over here." Gemma replied.
"I'm sure she'll be glad to see you." Kay answered, "Thanks for coming Gemma."
"If there's anything I can do let me know." Gemma exclaimed
"I will, thank you." Kay replied.
"Tara, my son's wife, she helped with the surgery on your daughter. She's a good doctor." Gemma stated.
"I just wish they'd tell me something. I want to see my family." Kay ran her hand through her hair.
"I know waiting is infuriating. They'll come get us when we can see them." Gemma reassured Kay as she had a seat.
Kay sighed as she moved to have a seat next to Gemma. Neither woman said anymore as they waited news on Michael and Isabella. Kay's knee bounced up and down for a while. She tapped her manicured nails on her knee for a while. She sighed quite often. Gemma understood about worrying about your loved ones. Violence was nothing new to the biker Queen. Clearly Isabella's family weren't used to it going by how distressed Kay was at that moment. Gemma had worried for Abel when he'd been born with a hole in his heart and tear in his belly but she knew he would make it. Like she now knew Isabella would make it. The young woman had a lot to live for and a lot going for her.
"Has anyone told Happy yet?" Kay suddenly asked.
"He's out doing something for the club. No one can reach him." Gemma effortlessly lied.
Clay would tell Happy about his wife when the Killah returned to the clubhouse.
"I can't imagine how this is going to affect him. He loves her so much." Kay stated making Gemma raise her eyebrow, "I'll admit we were a bit worried how he was really going to treat our daughter when he first came to dinner. Seeing him covered in tattoos and wearing a motorcycle club's vest. Michael and I tried very hard to not let the rumors we'd heard cloud our judgement. But he's been nothing but caring and loving towards her since they first started dating...he's a great son-in-law. I couldn't imagine a better man for my daughter than him."
It was odd to Gemma to hear someone speak so highly of Happy. The assassin for the club. The one who strikes fear in everyone just by his name. The one who purposefully tattoos a smiley face on his stomach for every kill he makes. If the situation were different, Gemma might have laughed.
"I'm glad you feel that way about Happy. He's a good man." Gemma stated.
"How do you know him?" Kay looked over at her.
"I've known all these bikers for years." Gemma confessed, "And I will say Isabella has been the best thing in Happy's life since his mother."
"Thank you. I know it's odd seeing the pair together. But every time he looks at my daughter, I can see how he feels. And the feeling goes both ways. She's just as enamored with him as he is with her." Kay chuckled.
The pair slipped into silence once more as they waited to be able to see Michael and Isabella. It felt like an eternity when a nurse came in. She asked for Michael Baker's family and Isabella Lowman's family. Gemma told Kay she'd go see Isabella while she went to see her husband. Kay thanked her acquaintance before they followed the nurse to the right rooms. Gemma entered the room and took a deep breath. Isabella was still out from the anesthesia. There was a nasal cannula in her nose, electrodes on her chest, a heart rate monitor on her finger, and a blood pressure cuff on her arm. Gemma stared at her face and noted just how pale the young woman seemed to be.
Twenty minutes later a nurse walked in to take her vitals. Gemma asked about her condition and why she was so pale. "She lost a lot of blood. I'm just about to start the blood transfusion ordered by her doctor. We'll be starting IV fluids as well here in a minute. She's a lucky woman, the bullet didn't penetrate her heart or lungs." the nurse told her. Gemma scooted the lone chair in the room next to Isabella's bed and grabbed her hand while the nurse took her vitals. The Queen watched as she left then a few minutes later returned with a blood bag and a saline bag. Without a word spoken, then nurse hung up each bag and got them hooked up properly. "Oh, sweetheart. I'm sorry this happened to you." Gemma stated as she looked back to Isabella's face.
Michael was still out from the anesthesia when Kay entered his room. She took her husband's state in. There was a nasal cannula in his nose, electrodes on his chest, a heart rate monitor on his finger, a blood pressure cuff on his arm, a blood bag and a saline bag dripping into his IV. She gasped at the sight as she walked further into the room. The nurse reassured her he was going to be fine. Despite being shot three times in the chest, each bullet missed anything vital. Kay pulled the chair up to the side of Michael's bed and grabbed his hand. She rubbed her thumb over the back of his hand and watched his vitals being taken. "My poor baby." she sighed as she sat there.
Happy, Jax, Tig, and Chibs finally returned from their trip out to their negotiations with a new club in Stockton which had been bothering their charter up there. Clay immediately called church so they could discuss what happened. Things had been tense during their little sit-down discussion but ultimately they had come to an understanding and an agreement. They now had another customer buying guns from them making Clay very happy. Jax was curious why Clay hadn't slammed his gavel down after everything had been discussed.
"Clay? What's going on?" Jax inquired.
"We got a problem. Someone went to Happy's 'ol lady's work and shot up the place. Several people died. Some were injured. (Happy growled as he stared down his Prez) I've been told Isabella is one who survived but she was rushed into surgery. As far as I know she's not into anything illegal so I doubt this has to do with her and more getting back at us for some reason.
Jax, I want you to go talk to Alvarez. See what he knows. Tig, you and Bobby go to Laroy. Chibs, go see our new friends again and see what they know." Clay ordered, "I promise you, Happy, we're gonna find out who did this to your 'ol lady."
"He's mine." Happy growled.
"Fine." Clay retorted before slamming the gavel down.
Happy briskly walked to his bike and took off for the hospital.
"Who do we think did this? Isabella is such a sweet lass." Chibs asked as he, Tig, Bobby, and Jax walked out to their bikes.
"Hard to say. Could be someone with a grudge against Happy. He's made a lot of enemies over the years." Jax shrugged as they made it to their bikes.
