Each week Isabella left her son with Gemma like Tara did and visited her husband in prison without fail. Nothing kept her from going. He always asked how his son was doing and she always told him what new things he was doing or learning. It pained Happy to not be there witnessing everything first-hand. It had been hard enough to see her pregnancy through plexiglass. He always told her loved her at least once during their visit and how he couldn't wait to hold her once more. She always made him promise to be safe while he was there.
Gemma came by her condo after work one evening startling her. The biker Queen said there was going to be a family dinner at the clubhouse. A nomad had been voted into the Redwood charter and they were celebrating. She had come to invite Isabella over knowing how little the woman got out of the house. Isabella thought for a moment or two and said she'd be delighted to come. Gemma gave her the date and time to be there with a relaxed smile. As soon as the Queen had left, Isabella called to set up a babysitter for that night.
There was a teenager girl in the condominium complex that was an excellent babysitter that she trusted with her son. Once she had secured her sitter for the night, she went back to working on her novel. That Friday night, she was preparing for her night out at the clubhouse. She felt cute but not too dressy or trashy. Her hair and make-up were done and all she was waiting on was the babysitter. There were bottles of milk already in the fridge, he'd been fed, his diaper changed, she'd bathed him and got him ready for bed before the sitter arrived. By the time the girl did, Isabella had money out so she could order herself a pizza. She gave all the pertinent information to her sitter before leaving for the clubhouse.
Tig was almost surprised to see her show up. She almost never came to clubhouse unless she needed Gemma to babysit for her. When she came walking over to where he stood with Bobby, she greeted the pair cordially with a warm smile. He draped his arm around her shoulder and welcomed her to the party. Clay was having some words with the newest SAMCRO member before the festivities began. Isabella noted Tara wasn't there and wondered why. Lyla left the kitchen with Gemma who smiled when she noticed Isabella had arrived.
Gemma called dinner done so Clay told the women to make their plates. Quinn eyed up Isabella as she walked over to stand behind Lyla to make herself a plate. He wanted to know about this strange woman. She wasn't like the crow eaters that hung around the clubhouses. She walked differently from them. She dressed differently from them. It made him curious about her. Who was she? How was she related to the club? Once the women had their plates, the men walked into the kitchen to make theirs. Lyla and Opie were sitting with Isabella since she didn't have anyone to sit with. Bobby sat with Quinn and Tig while Clay and Gemma sat together.
"Who's the chick sitting with Opie and Lyla?" Quinn nonchalantly inquired.
"Her name is Isabella. She's Hap's 'ol lady." Bobby replied.
"Happy took an 'ol lady?" Quinn's eyes widened.
"Not only that, they have a son together." Bobby chuckled at his brother's reaction.
"Holy shit. Never woulda thought he'd settle down." Quinn commented.
"Us either. Especially with someone like her. She's so friendly, naïve looking, and almost sickening sweet." Tig added his two cents to the conversation, "But they seem to make their relationship work."
"Got married in Texas because all her family were down there. Nice ceremony but a lot of her family seemed to put their nose up at us." Bobby stated.
"Wow. It's hard to imagine." Quinn replied as he glanced over to her where she was laughing with Lyla.
"It's true brother. Visits Happy each and every week without fail." Tig exclaimed.
"Dedicated woman." Quinn said.
"More dedicated than some of the other 'ol ladies I hear." Bobby said referring to Opie's late wife and a few others he knew.
"I bet." Quinn nodded as he glanced over at her again.
After everyone ate, Clay stood up and loudly welcomed Quinn to SAMCRO making all the bikers whoop and holler. Isabella just shook her head as she watched everyone walk over to the long-haired blond and shake his hand before giving a man-hug. She liked seeing the brotherhood and sense of family these bikers had for one another. Opie just sat there listening to his wife and his brother's 'ol lady discuss whatever they were discussing. He was happy to see his wife and an actual friend hanging out together. Most people couldn't see past what his wife did for a living.
After dinner, the music got cranked up and liquor began to flow. Isabella sat there sipping on her bottled water when Tig walked over with the long-haired blond. He introduced her to Rane Quinn the brother who'd just patched into SAMCRO. She politely said hello and welcome and congratulated him on patching in. He was taken by how smooth and delicate her voice sounded as he thanked her. She politely asked where he'd come from making him tell her he'd been the president of the NOMAD charter. "I see." she simply replied with a shy smile. Tig slapped his brother's back before waving the prospect over for a couple beers.
Lyla and one of the other 'ol ladies were dancing together making a few of the bikers smile at the display. Isabella just sat there watching everything with amusement. She could never see herself acting that way but she found it entertaining watching other people. Opie had moved to sit with Bobby while his wife was dancing. Quinn finally had a seat at her table in silence as he sipped his beer. She was titillating to him and he wanted to ask all sorts of questions. After a while, he decided to start asking.
"So I hear you're Happy's 'ol lady." He stated.
"Yes I am." She said as she moved her wrist so he could check out her small crow.
"Wow. Never thought that man would take an 'ol lady." He chuckled.
"There's someone out there for everyone." Isabella cheerfully replied.
"How've you been? With him being locked up?" Quinn inquired.
"Oh. Taking it one day at a time. Work and the baby keep me pretty busy." She replied.
He could see why his brother had fallen for the woman. She was unlike any woman he'd ever met.
"Will you be working at the garage too?" She suddenly asked.
"Most likely." He replied.
"I'm sure they could use the help. Especially with four of their employees in prison." She stared out at the debauchery before her.
"Is this your first time dealing with him locked up?" Quinn asked.
"Yes. He went to county lock up for a month which was bad enough. I guess only being away for eighteen months is a lot better than what they were originally going to go away for but still." She couldn't hide the sadness in her voice.
"You've got the club." Quinn told her.
"I know. Happy has Tig and Opie coming by every so often to check up on me." She chuckled.
The pair slipped back into silence as they watched the chaos around them. Everyone was having fun laughing, joking, and drinking. Quinn noted she only drank bottled water and wondered why. Was it a religious thing? She mentioned having a baby. Did that have something to do with it? Was she simply not a big drinker? Quinn had so many questions in his head about this woman. She was enjoying the silence as she sat there watching everyone else having fun. Looking at her phone, she realized it was time for her to go. Standing up, she bid Quinn a good night stating she had to get home. He watched as she walked over to Clay and Gemma and spoke to them briefly before walking out to her car.
