- Melody Pov -
I woke up like every day, tired and completely done with myself.
The Alarm was blaring at me to wake up, of which I responded with grabbing it and pelting it at the adjacent wall and watching it shatter.
A small smile spread across my face as I was finally enveloped in sweet silence once again.
I closed my eyes and pulled the covers back over my face, enjoying the peace and quiet in favour of getting ready for school. I didn't care if I was late, that's the schools problem not mine.
The door clicked open.
"Melody, you need to wake up now." My dad spoke with an irritated tone. "And stop throwing you're damn alarms against the wall, there's a snooze bottom on the top, either learn how to use it properly or pay for another one with your own money." He walked over to my bed and I pulled the sheets tighter over my head as I realized what he was about to do. "Get up!" He yelled and quickly ripped the blankets off of me.
"DAD!" I whined as he glared at me with my sheets in his hands.
"I told you to get up, now move it!"
I sighed and threw myself off of my bed and stormed passed him. "I hate this house." I muttered under my breath the second I got through the door way.
I slid down the railing and landed with ease, earning a good scolding from my father. The table was set, but I had no time to eat, nor did I want to. I grabbed a piece of toast and then bolted back upstairs.
"Go back downstairs and eat your breakfast!💢." He screamed as I pushed passed him on the stairs.
I threw my pajamas off and quickly put on my uniform. After that I grabbed my school bag and ran back down the stairs - almost tumbling because my shoelaces weren't done up.
I suddenly stopped when I saw my dad standing in front of the door. His arms crossed and a regretful expression on his face. As if he felt guilty for something. I jumped on to the landing and stood in front of him.
"Melody...look...there's something I need to tell you." He spoke hesitantly while avoiding direct eye contact. "My boss has offered me a job in another state...it's a fair distance away from here so I'll need to go by plane...she told me there's another precinct that needs detectives like me, plus I'll be getting paid more." Dad rubbed the back of his head nervously.
I was stunned and confused...is he really going to leave me here alone. No he wouldn't do that. " you're not serious are you? How long will you be gone for!?" I demanded.
He sighed and put his hand on my shoulder. "8-9 months...maybe even a year. I'm sorry."
"Am I coming with you!?"
He gave me another pained expression. "No. You'll have to stay here, you're uncle Zeldris will come round from time to time, so you won't be alone. My flight is this afternoon."
"WHAT!? THIS AFTERNOON!? WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!?" I aggressively slapped his hand away from me and kicked open the door. "I wish that I had died instead of Eliza! At least she meant something to you!"
And I was like this all the way to school. My hands were balled up into fists and tears were running down my face. Killia came bolting over to me when she saw me and pulled me into a hug, same with Deloris. I explained to them what had happened and how angry I felt at him for not consulting me first.
I can tell this wasn't going to be a good day.
