chapter thirty four: chuck

It had been three weeks since Y/n had been found in the Maze. A new greenie came up today, his name was Chuck. The Gladers were concerned when he first came up because he was so young. They guessed about 12 or 13, the boy was terrified. Alby gave the boy a tour and finally reached the Med-Hut. "And that's the Med-Hut, but don't go in there. It's currently- occupied." Alby said with a grim look on his face.

~*Newt's Pov*~
Newt heard Alby and the Greenie talking, so went out to see them. "Hey Newt, how's she doing?" "The same as always." Newt said with a sad sigh, "How's who doing?" little Chuck asked. There was a very long pause as Alby and Newt exchanged a strange look, "He deserves to know, Newt." Alby told Newt. "K, come in." He turned around and walked back into the Med-Hut, Chuck looked at Alby confused, but followed the blonde boy. He saw a girl lying on a bed, "Woah- what's wrong with her?" Newt looked up and sighed, "Her names Y/n. She went into the maze and got trapped overnight. She was attack by a Griever, she hasn't woken up since." He had a slight tear in his eye but took a deep breath and composed himself. "Basically, when she first came up, she passed out. For an entire month, we don't know why. That was a year ago now. It's almost been a month without her, tomorrow it will be atleast." he said slightly sadly.

Chuck just looked at the girl, unaware at where he recognised her and Newt from. It was probably nothing. He said goodbye to Newt and walked outside to see Alby. Newt was left alone once again in the small room with the lifeless girl.

'Hey Love.' Y/n heard in her head.
'God, you probably can't even hear me. But it's nice to have someone to talk to who won't judge me every five seconds.'
Newt sighed, 'This may sound stupid, or silly but Y/n you don't even know how much I care about you.'
'Everytime you walked over it felt as if the sun had suddenly gotten brighter. Everything was so much better with you here.'
There was a long pause, she heard someone else come in, it was Alby.
'Dinner.' he said and left again.
'Be back soon Sunshine.' he said.
'I love you.' he whispered quietly as he took one last glance at her.
Then, silence.

Newt walked over to Fry's kitchen to collect his food. They were having a lamb stew, they had that every time there was a new greenie. "Thanks Fry." he said with a smile and went to sit beside Chuck. "Newt?" the small boy asked. Newt mumbled in reply signifying that he was to ask his question, "Can you tell me more about Y/n?" Newt stopped chewing. He looked at Chuck, thought for a second, then asked, "What do you want to know?" "What was she like?" Newt laughed, "She wa- is.. bloody crazy. Always drank far too much of Gally's drink when a new greenie came up. Her and Gally never got along very well, so we always used to climb to the top of the watchtower and scream at the top of our lungs to annoy him until our throats hurt! It was bleeding amazing." Chuck laughed slightly, "She seems like a very cool person.." "She is."
