chapter forty three: in charge

Everyone stood there in shock, Y/n had just lost two of her best friends. They all had. "That stupid shank!" Gally blurted out, "We told him not to go in the shucking place and of course he didn't have to listen!" "Slim it, Gally." Newt said, "No! No, Newt I won't! He has just came up in the box and now he thinks he's a god damn saviour!" The word saviour sounded weird to Y/n, she didn't know why. It just didn't feel right. "Just because Alby's gone, doesn't mean you two can start barking orders at the rest of us!" Gally shouted at the pair, "Good god Gally, get a god damn grip! We've just lost some of our best Gladers and you want to talk about who's in charge?" Y/n scoffed, "Well, Y/n if you're not up for the job I'm sure a lot of others are!" he said, adding anger to her name.

"Don't bloody talk like that to her Gally!" Newt shouted out, which shocked everyone. Newt was usually a very calm person, but when it came to Y/n he could be very protective, "Shut the hell up!" he said quickly after, "Newt it's fi-" "No, Y/n. It's not bloody fine! He can't treat you like that and expect to get off lightly!" Newt started walking towards Gally, Y/n quickly grabbed his hand and pulled him away. "C'mon, we don't have time for arguments. Okay?" she said with a slightly forced smile to try brighten things up.

A Gathering was called, by Gally. Of course. All of the Keepers and Leaders made their way to the Council Hall, when Y/n and Newt entered Gally stood there with an angry look on his face. "Look who finally decided to show up!" They looked at eachother confused, "Gally, you literally called the Gathering just five minutes ago?" Y/n said with a laugh, Gally looked at her plainly and sat down. The pair made their way to their seats at the front, then Gally spoke up. "I'm sure you all know why we're here. We have important things to discuss."

Everyone looked at Gally in a confused matter, Zart then said, "What? The Greenie went into the maze and now you feel like you're the leader? We have two perfectly fine leaders already here!" Pointing and Y/n and Newt, "He's right." Jeff said, "If there's anyone who knows how to run this place better than Alby, it's them." The girl had a smirk on her face as Gally looked at them angrily. "Yeah? Well I'm in charge and you can suck it up the lot of you." the room broke into uproar. There were multiple people who agreed with Gally, more agreeing with him than disagreeing. Zart, Jeff, Clint and Frypan walked over to the pair sitting at the front of the crowd. "Gally, that's not your choice to make." Y/n said with a laugh, "You can't just take over the entire Glade." he walked over to her and just laughed, Gally was taller than the girl so he had to look down slightly, "What you gonna do about it?"

Y/n couldn't take the smug boys snarky comments anymore. She looked at the small crowd of people behind her and the larger group behind Gally. "Here goes nothing." she whispered before punching Gally hard in the jaw. He fell to the floor as Newt tried to contain his laughter but just couldn't. "You really just got beaten by a girl again Gally?" he said whilst laughing. Gally stood up with an extremely angry look on his face and shoved the girl hard into the ground. The last thing she could remember seeing was Gallys' mad face before it all went black.
