A Dim Light Amid Despair: Humanity's Comeback Part 1

Annie's pov

The day had arrived as many young folks stood in an open area. We were all new recruits of the 104th Cadet Corps. Our drill instructor, who's name was Keith Shadis was shouting in everyone's face he seems fit.

I heard a sigh next to me but didn't dare to turn my head and look at her. Just by her sigh, I know she was bored out of her mind and wasn't in the mood to be here. Neither was I but she definitely showed it the most.

I finally decided to take a look at her. She held a blank but serious expression on her face as the Sir Shadis stared at her for a few seconds. He then walked away from her and passed me. Why didn't he say anything?

She looked at me and her face completely changed, she looked as though she was holding in a hard laugh, ready to explode.

I quickly looked away from her, knowing she was going to make me lose my cool if I kept looking. That brat...

Well she aged well didn't she? I thought to myself. She's a complete idiot. I sighed.

She may be an idiot but she's strong, since I've been helping her.

Luna's PoV

Once the inspection was over, one girl got in trouble for eating a potato during that time. She got sent to run laps for the rest of the evening.

When the sun went down, Annie and I made our way into the mess hall to get something to eat. I sat at a table with her, two others joining us. "Who's your friend, Annie?" One of them asked.

I looked up to meet eyes with a blond guy that sat across from me. Next to him sat a another with dark brown hair. Well these two look like a duo.

"Ask her yourself." She spat, going back to eating her food. "I'm Luna." I said as I took a drink from my cup.

"I'm Reiner, this is Bertholdt." He introduced himself along with his friend next to them. "Are you close friends with Annie?" I asked.

"No, we're just from Trost so we know each other a bit." He said. "Oh.."

I looked over to see a crowd of people surrounding Eren, talking about the attack on Shiganshina. "Feels like it was only yesterday.." I mumbled, putting my fork down.

"You were there?" Reiner ask. "Yes." As I stood up, I excused myself from the table to head over to where Eren was to stop him from speaking but someone had already beat me to it.

"That's enough asking questions, we've been through hell that day. We don't want to relive it." Aaron spoke as he walked up to Eren's table.

"It's not like that. Those stupid titans, you're not that big of a deal. If we focus on mastering the odm gear they give us, then it's titan pay back time. I've waited years to be trained as a soldier, all of a sudden the reality is sinking in." I watched as Eren blabber on about sending the titans to hell.

That's eren for you. One of the people sitting at another table asked if Eren was crazy.

"I can see where this is going.." I sat back down to continue with my food but the bell started to ring. I groaned in annoyance and rose from my seat once again.
