First Battle: The Struggle for Trost, Part 2
▐░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░▌

Luna's PoV

I picked up a little girl who had lost her mother in the crowd of people trying to move further into the walls.

"Mikasa, I'm going to try and get this girl back to her family, please keep an eye out." I said and she nodded as I held tightly onto the girl, zipping away to the front.

Once I've landed near the entrance of the gate, I looked around. "What's your name?" I asked.

Her big brown eyes looked up at me. She was terrified for her life that's for sure.

"Phoebe.." she mumbled. I stood up and shouted. "Has anyone lost their daughter named Pheobe?!" I asked but the crowd was too busy moving to give me a second look.

I bit down on my lip slightly.

"Mother left me at home, she told me to stay but when I walked outside, she was running away like everyone else.." she said, looking down.

Her mother abandoned her?! How could they? She was just a child.

I turned my attention to the gate to see a large wagon of hay in the way, stopping people from getting through.

"Move the god damn wagon you fool! People need to get through, the wagon can go in last!" I shouted but they ignored my demands.

People were shouting at the selfish merchants for getting in their way.

I turned to the little girl and smiled at her. "I'm going to leave you here for a bit, if you spot some friends, stick with them. If you need to run then run and don't hold back." I said, patting her head.

"What's your name?" She asked.

"Luna." I smiled as her eyes sparkled slightly. "like the moon?" She asked. I've never really asked my mother what my name meant. I nodded slowly. "Yes.." I said before zipping off to find Mikasa.

"We're gonna have to force them out of the way.." I landed next to mikasa who looked quite annoyed at the situation.

"You wanna make it out of here alive? Stop whining and help!" The man shouted.

"Listen here you magot.." I mumbled as I walked towards the man despite him being taller than me I was ready to cut him down.

"If you don't move this god damn wagon out of here not only would these people die, but I'll gladly feed you to the titans myself if it happens." I pulled my blades out, bringing it to his neck.

"Try me and you'll see what happens."

There was a loud thud headed our way. I turned around and noticed an abnormal titan running towards us. "Mikasa!" I shouted and she immediately zipped off to take down the titan.

I jumped up onto the hay stack of the wagon as everyone rushed forward to get through.

Once the titan fell to the ground I sighed in relief that she managed to take it down.

"Couldn't have asked for better-"

With all the strength I have, I kicked the merchant man in his head, knocking him to the side in anger.

I jumped down from the wagon and pointed my blade at one of his men. "Move the wagon or meet the same faith as your boss with my boot!"

They quickly got into action and moved the wagon out of the way.

Once everyone got through the gates, I sighed in relief and looked at Mikasa, giving her a warm smile.

"Thank you Luna!" I turned and looked at the little girl I tried to help earlier. "No problem little one, now get into the gates quickly." I said and she nodded, running off. As I watch her run away,  I felt warm inside.

"That was stressful.." I said, turning my attention back to Mikasa.

I looked down at my trembling hands before balling it up into a fist.

"How long are you going to stay out here, punching that God damn tree?" Aaron asked. I was out back, punching and kicking our tree that we had. It was bruised in places I was hitting it constantly.

"I must become strong, that way I could defeat titans and-"

"Yeah yeah I get it but look at yourself, you've skipped breakfast and lunch. Are you gonna skip dinner too?" He asked.

"No I just-"

He cut me off again and I looked at him annoyed. "Stop cutting me off when I'm trying to talk to you!"

"Sorry.. just take a break, eat something too." He grabbed my hands, examining the bruises on my knuckles. My hands were trembling and I've only now started to feel the pain.

"If you keep this up, you'll break your bones one way or another."

For the rest of the evening, I had put off training and had dinner with my brother.

It was lonely even with my brother around. The food wasn't great, I missed my mother's cooking. Why did she have to leave us? She never left a note or even said goodbye.

"Luna? Aaron?"

I quickly ran downstairs, happy to hear my mother called my name. Aaron soon came down aswell but he wasn't as excited as I was.

I looked up at my mother to see that she had cut her long white hair to a more shoulder length style. I tilted me head and had to ask.

"Your hair.." I started.

"Don't you worry about that right now. How's my favorite little girl?" She asked, complete ignoring Aaron who stood next to her.

"She rubbed my head and I smiled widely at her comfort. I hadn't notice this before but my mother had 5 lines under both of her eyes that was barely visible. As I rubbed my eyes and look again, they were gone.

"I cannot stay long as you know." She said standing up and walking passed me.

"Mother?" I called out. When she turned to me I was afraid to mention it but I did.

"You haven't greeted Aaron.." I mumbled.
"Oh how silly of me." She walked up to Aaron, placing her hand on his head before walking away.

I looked at his angered expression but didn't dare to question it.

Why was it that I thought of that moment right there and then?

"Now that the civilians are through, we should get to the others and see if they need help." I said as I looked over to Mikasa.

"Split up." She said and I nodded, zipping off into the sky.
