When a God falls for you [Zhongli x Reader]

When a god interacts with human emotions...

You're standing in the kitchen, looking out of the window. You think about your journey, what to do next, about your friends.. your brother. You really miss him, but it comforts you knowing that he's still out there, somewhere.

"Just hold on a little longer" you mumble. "I will find you, no matter how far I have to go. Someday I will finally find you, and I will never let you go again - I will fight for you. I promise."

You smile slightly, looking forward to do your best at all that is still to come.
When you turned around to head back to your room, which is right across the kitchen, you nearly drop your glass. You see Zhongli, directly staring at you. His eyes are glowing bright yellow - so are his hands through his gloves. It reminds you of the first time you saw him - when you woke up in his bed and turned around to look at him.

You almost drop your glass out of shook.
»Ahh shi-« you curse, just nearly getting a grip of the glass. »oof...«
You put it back on the counter and look over to Zhongli - but he isn't there anymore.
"What the hell was that?!" you think to yourself as you slowly make your way towards the room again.

»Uhm.. Zhongli?«, you enter the room. You look around in the dark room, but you can't see him.
»Hello? where-«
All of a sudden you feel a big hand grabbing your wrist and the other one (softly) slamming your body against the wall. Zhongli looks at you, his eyes and hands glowing like bright yellow fire.
»Ahh ehhh?! Zho-Zhongli what- w-what are you doing?!?« you stutter, your heart racing so much, you feel like it will hop out of your chest any moment and a head completely bright red.
Zhongli grabs your face, nearly completely closing the gap between you two - and looks you straight into your eyes.

»Y/n, I don't know what you're doing. I can't seem to have my thoughts under control.«
He then closes his eyes, trying to calm down, calm his desire. You can see that he's clearly struggling.

He then comes even closer to your face, you can feel his breath on your lips. But he doesn't kiss you - he just keeps looking deep into your e/c eyes. It feels like he's looking right into your soul (which at that point also nearly left your body).

After a few seconds you manage to leave your frozen position and push Zhongli away from you.
»H-hey p-p-please, wait. W-We can talk about this, first I need you to calm down, I don't think you know what you're doing. I'm completely fine, really! Just try to think about something else..!« you try to explain to him, but he didn't seem to understand it.

Zhongli tries to get his emotions under control, but it's so hard for him seeing you standing there like this, blushing, in front of him.
»I can't help it.«
He says, about to come close to you again. You're so overwhelmed, you don't know what to do. You try to hold him back, but he seemed like he wasn't about to stop.
»STOP!!« you finally scream, suddenly sounding kind of scared.. of him.

Zhongli freezes. His eyes and hands stop glowing and he steps back from you - shocked about himself.
»I-... I'm so sorry. I didn't want to.. pressure you or anything. I lost myself. I'm really.. sorry. I don't know what I'm doing, nor.. what this feeling is making me do.« He mumbles.

»Hey, don't feel bad because of this. I know feelings can be overwhelming at times, especially if you're trying to care for someone-..«

»You don't understand, y/n. However, It seems like you're doing better. It'll be better if I leave now. Get some rest now, please.« Zhongli interrupts you.

He feels guilty. He made you even more uncomfortable than you were before.
Thinking this, he walks out of your room.

»H-hey wait! Zhongli! I still-...«

He closes the door to his room and locks it.

»... want you to stay..«

You fall on your bed, your heart still racing from what just happened. "What has gotten into him..? Did I do something that might've triggered him?" you start thinking. The moments flash through your mind.
"He said I am doing something to him, what?? I'm making him feel weird, But I-..... Why is he acting so weird?? Does he.. no. I don't know, ughh..."
Well, other than that.. another thing somehow seems to not leave your mind: You think about how close he was to you.
His warmth,
his scent,
his eyes -
his lips, nearly on yours.

"No!! y/n!!! Stop!! He didn't know what he was doing.. he probably just wanted to.. I don't know, honestly. I can't just leave it with this. He's acting more and more weird, something has to be behind this. Whatever it is..."

You tried to think about different things but it just didn't leave your mind. You felt bad because you just pushed him away from you like that... you somehow wanted him to be this close to you.

"I'm going to ask him, tomorrow, yes. He's going to tell me what the heck is going on, and maybe.. I think I already know how.."

Zhonglis POV

„What did I do.."
Zhongli lays on his bed, his arms over his head. "I simply should've known better."
"I only wanted to protect her first.. she needs it, she's only a human, after all... I know how easy their lives can be at risk.." he sits up "but.. these weird human feelings.. I don't know how to handle them. I don't know what has gotten into me. I lost my temper, that never happened before. Maybe it would be better for myself and her if I left her alone for some time. I have to learn how to deal with emotions now since my gnosis is gone."
Zhongli stands up and looks out of the window. The moonlight makes him remember the moment he saw you today - your pretty face, your sweet smile.. he feels that this weird feeling starts to set in again. His heart beats faster, he starts to blush, his hands and eyes begin to glow again. He has the urge to just.. be with you again. He wants to feel this excitement again.

Suddenly he realizes: he didn't just want to protect you. These feelings aren't there without a reason.. there was more than that, but what?

"Could that be.. love?"
