Jeongin knew something was wrong when Chan didn't call like he promised.
When he normally left, Chan would call him about twenty minutes after to see if he made it alright. He hadnt even gotten so much as a text and it made him sad.
He had come home and changed his clothes, throwing on one of chans shirts he left there and a pair of sweats. After changing he'd thrown himself on his bed with a groan, feeling helpless.
Jeongin felt like Chan was mad at him. The way he told him to leave after he asked what they were only made him feel like the older didn't like him enough to ever be more than what they were now. They were nothing. Just two boys who kissed, held hands and cuddled.
He glanced down at his phone, tearing up in anger that Chan hadn't messaged him yet.
Finally after a lot of mental conflict, he decided to call him. Dialing his number and hearing the rings come through the phone when he placed it to his ear. He slowly counted the rings as it rang out, knowing that after the fifth one he probably wasn't going to answer him.
After each ring, his heart fell a bit more tearing up even more but blinking them away after a moment.
Seven...
Eight...
"Hey you've reached Chan. If I didnt answer it's probably because I don't want to talk to you, so byeee"
The tone to leave a message rang out and the boy hesitated before speaking.
"Channie, it's me.. " He began "you never called to see if I got home safely so I'm calling now to tell you that I did.. "
He looked down playing with a loose string on his duvet and sighed.
"I feel like I did something wrong" He spoke into the speaker.
"I feel like I hurt you or something.. "
He began to tear up, not being able to keep his voice from sounding strained or teary as he spoke.
"You're really hurting my heart by not telling me what's wrong.. You just kicked me out without an explanation when we were so happy in that moment. I know you're not sick because you seemed mad.. You're not even giving me a chance to fix it." He sniffled "whatever I did just tell me, so I can make it all okay again.. " His breath came out quickly as he sucked another one in, it all sounding through the phone.
Chan listened to this message three hours later while he lay in bed. He had come home, feeling exhausted and thought he'd catch a nap but seeing that jeongin had called. Chan had left his phone there when he'd left in anger.
"You make me really happy, hyung.. I don't want to lose that.." He breathed out, a knock sounded somewhere on the other side of the line and along with the sound of a door opening.
"We're going to lunch, come on"
He could hear jeongin mumble something and the door closing. Shuffling could be heard before he heard jeongin sniffling again.
"Call me soon, okay?" After a few more seconds, the line went quiet and the operator began telling him to save the message, reply to the message or hang up or press 1 for more options. He saved the message and hung up the call.
Did jeongin really think he was mad at him? It was a whole big misunderstanding that the younger would probably never know the truth of.
He decided to call the younger back to explain that he wasn't mad at him.
He clicked his contact and listened to the rings slowly ring out as he put the call on speaker.
"Hello?" He heard a small voice answer the phone that sounded vaguely familiar.
