~~~I woke up with butterflies in my stomach and jumped out of my bed. That happiness quickly evaporated when I realized Damon wasn't beside me.
He was there when I fell asleep.
I normally would've shrugged something like this off but with the bad feeling I've had in my stomach these days, this particular fact irritated me.
I felt my fingers start to tingle and my heartbeat speed up.
Okay. Breathe. He's fine.
My hands started to shake uncontrollably and I clasped them together as I sat back down on my bed.
Breathe. 10, 9, 8...
Just then, he walked in the door with two mugs of coffee in his hand. I rushed over to hug him and relief spread in me as I did.
He sucked his teeth. "Love, you made me spill." He complained.
I grabbed my wand out from under my pillow and muttered a quick cleaning spell. "All done. One of those coffees is for me, I hope?" I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Obviously." He handed me one and walked over to a still sleeping Roxy, placing it softly on her bedside drawer. I smiled at how he considered my best friend.
He clapped his hands together. "So, big day, huh?"
I nodded, sipping my warm coffee. "Don't remind me. I could barely sleep."
"Don't I know it, this is the first night you kept tossing and turning." He teased as he slipped his hands under the hem of my shirt and rubbed my back, knowing I take comfort in the skin on skin contact.
"No nightmares at least, right?" Our heads turned when we suddenly heard Roxy's groggy morning voice speaking to us.
"No nightmares." I confirmed.
Roxy gave Damon a small smile and nod as she took the coffee in her hand, knowing he was the one to get it for her.
"Okay. Let's get dressed. We have to rush to get breakfast, we have a little break, and then we have final rehearsals today. They start at ten. Everything has to be perfect." I decided to put my hair up into a messy bun the muggle way this time, taking comfort in the threading of my hair between my fingers to help calm my nerves before today's performance.
"You have to perform at three, correct?" Damon asked.
Both Roxy and I shook our heads, I spoke up. "The tournament starts at three, it'll take a while to get through the introductions and we're actually the last ones to perform."
He made an Aahh motion with his mouth in understanding and I rushed over to my dresser to grab a blue crop top and some plain black shorts for rehearsals.
"I love our costumes." Roxy smiled as she admired hers. We had all agreed on a compromise, since some of our dancers were more comfortable with masculine vs feminine. We would wear sparkly bralettes, with plain trousers, some would wear a cropped cardigan over their bralettes, each person of course in their house colors. That's a tradition we can't eliminate.
"It's one of our best ones by far." I agreed with her.
A giggle escaped me when Damon came up from behind and wrapped his arms around my waist, underneath my shirt. He placed a kiss on my neck and turned to whisper in my ear. "I can't wait to get that beautiful costume off of you."
