Kathy's POV
I smiled as I took the tea Hagrid gave me and thanked him for it.
"So, me lil' Ruby, how's you doin'? Learnin' lots, I'd wager on it."
"Yeah, I guess so, Hagrid." I shrugged as I sipped on my tea.
"Wha's the madder? Somethin's buggin' you."
"I'm fine, Hagrid. Don't worry."
"Gibberish. 've know' you for all me life, lil' Ruby. 'eld you since you was a lil' baby, even lil'r than you is now. Talk to me."
I sighed. "My dad and I got into a fight."
"Oh..." Hagrid stiffened. "I'll be honest wit you. I've 'eard 'bout that."
I let out a snort. "Professors gossip more than students, I swear."
"No, no, no." He shook his head. "McGonagall. She came 'nd talked to me, wanted me to 'elp you."
"He just doesn't let me grow up!" I put my tea down and started pacing around the small cabin. "I mean, I'm seventeen. The best in my class, not to brag, but it's the truth. I'm going to be eighteen in a year. Eighteen! An adult! He can't keep treating me like a child. I'm not a little girl anymore! I mean... Hagrid. He tried to hit me."
Hagrid gasped, "no he did not!" His face demonstrated the disbelief at hearing this statement just as it laced my tone while saying it out loud.
I nodded. "He did. And if Cierra and my Mami hadn't stepped in front of me, he probably would have. I mean... can you believe it? He tried to hit me!"
Hagrid cleared his throat. "Well, err, I'da thought Malfoy changed. Malfoy was a lot of things but... he wouldn' ever... by merlin I can't believe it. Woulda bet me own life me lil' Mal changed him. Tell you somethin', I ain't never seen your ol' dad happier or nicer than when he was with lil' Mal. When our lil' Hermione came and cried 'cuz Malfoy had called her a... merlin I can't say it."
My eyes widened. "What? What did he call auntie Mione?"
He shook his head as if to clear his thoughts. "No. 've said too much 'lready."
I walked over to him. "Hagrid. Tell me." I spoke firmly.
"Well... errm... I can't lie to you, lil' Ruby. He called her a... a mudblood." He whispered the last word.
I gasped. "What a hypocrite! Mami and him told us Uncle Bill would bite us if we ever said that word!" I shook my head and grabbed my cup of tea from the table, chugging it quickly, stumbling when Fang (the second), tripped me, and accidentally dropped the cup. "Shit. I'm so sorry, Hagrid." I cursed, leaning down to pick the shards of porcelain up.
"Say Kathy. Aint you a wizard?" He looked at me skeptically.
I laughed. "Right." I took my wand out of my back pocket and quickly muttered a cleaning spell, making the shards quickly vanish and the cabin was as relatively clean as it previously was.
I sighed and sat across from Hagrid on the wooden table, burying my face in my hands. He reached over and rubbed my shoulder gently. "Eh, you've got this, lil' Ruby. I'da bet you'll get through this."
"Thank you, Hagrid. I just... Papi and I have never gone this long without talking to each other. It's been over a week." I felt a tear stroll down my left cheek, and I smiled sadly. "You know I used to be scared of thunderstorms? And heavy rainfalls? I thought we would drown or something, I don't know." I snorted. "But my Papi, he used to take me out to the sand during a thunderstorm and have me dance in the rain, even go out to the water and dance." I sighed, nostalgia filling my heart. "What if we don't get over this? I mean... I'm not apologizing because I haven't got a thing to apologize for, and he certainly won't because he's too proud. So we're just stuck here. Papi and I usually write to each other every day. Every day, Hagrid. We haven't spoken or written to each other in over a week and I'm freaking out here."
