Before Magnus Birth:
On a sunny Spring day, a couple moved to South Korea's capital city, Seoul. The couple also just happened to move next to another young couple. When they found out that their neighbors were of the same age, they decided to befriend them. Going up to the door, the newly moved couple knocked on the door.
After a few seconds, the door opened, revealing a robust man that seemed to be in his 20's. "Hello, my name is Jin Ye-Jun, and this is my wife, Jin Veronica." The male that knocked, now known as Ye-Jun, introduced themselves. He had a sharp look, noticeably tall, and a well-built body. Ye-Jun's wife, Veronica, was not that much shorter than him. She was a beautiful foreigner, with dark brown hair, sun-kissed tan, and a bright smile across her face. Extending her hand after her husband, she greets the man at the door, "Nice to meet you. We just moved in and thought we should introduce ourselves and hopefully invite you to our house for a small housewarming party."
As the last sentence dropped, they heard another voice that seemed to be getting closer to the door. "Honey, who is that at the door?" "Ah, it's our neighbors inviting us over. Let's go for a bit, yeah?" the man replies. The voice owner appeared next to him, hugging him by the waist from the side. "Hello. My name is Park Kyung-Hye, and this is my husband, Sung Il-Hwan." She introduced. Park Kyung-Hye had long black hair, was more on the smaller side, and had a slim body. Sung Il-Hwan was the same height as Ye-Jun, but he had a more muscular build.
"Nice to meet you. So, would you guys like to come over, or is now a bad time?" Ye-Jun asked. "Nah, now's a good time. We just moved in last week, so it would be good if we can make friends with people our age." Il-Hwan responded.
With that, a friendship flourished between the two couples. The Jins moved back to Seoul and wanted to open a cafe. With the Sung couple's help, the cafe successfully opened after two years of planning. Both couples worked there, and they could happily say that the cafe was popular. Both Veronica and Kyung-Hye got pregnant just a few months apart at the age of 28. They both had baby boys, but Veronica could not survive giving birth. She sadly left her husband and newborn son after naming him. "Magnus. It means 'Greatest' in my native tongue."
Age 8:
It has been eight years since Veronica has passed away. The cafe was closed for a three month mourning period, but that was the daily wages they relied on, so it reopened. Magnus and Jin-Woo, Kyung-Hye and Il-Hwan's child, had gotten closer, always playing with each other when they had the chance. Kyung-Hye and Il-Hwan had another child, a girl. They named her Sung Jin-Ah.
One day, when the Sungs left to visit a friend out in the country, Magnus had asked his dad, "Dad, when it's my birthday, and you always say that we are going to visit mom, why do we always stop in front of a stone with her name and picture on it?"
They were currently at the cafe, closing up for the day. When Ye-Jun heard this question, he froze, not knowing how to respond. Taking deep breaths, he finally decided to answer truthfully. "Magnus, we visit mom at that place because she passed away. She passed away but left me such a beautiful gift that I would never give up. If it were to be stolen, I would fight with tooth and nail to get it back. If it disappeared, I would give up my soul to have it back. Magnus, do you know what that gift is?"
Magnus shakes his head 'No,' indicating that he has no idea what he is talking about. He turns to face Magnus and ruffles his head with a chuckle, answering the question. "Magnus, you are the gift, Veronica, your mom, left behind for me. You are my everything. Suppose I had to choose between saving the world or saving you. I would definitely save you, no matter what."
Not getting the latter half of the conversation, Magnus decides to smile brightly and ask one other question. "Dad, what is love?"
Chuckling, Ye-Jun asked, "Why are you asking that?"
