14: Fabricated

"But it has been brought to attention that the crimes you are accused of were only false allegations."

Loud gasps filled the tensed auditorium. Murmurs can be heard from behind but it was abruptly overpowered by shouting.

"That can't be! W-we saw him! We are witnesses!"

"Liar! He is lying to you, your honour!"

"Y-yes! He is lying! We saw him murder the marquis believe us!"

The noise was unbearable, the judge raised his gavel and pounded it."Order in the court!"

All returned to silence, and peace was brought once more.

"Heinestus Lainly, what do you have to say?"

Heinly stared blankly at the judge. But under that facade panic was taking over.

Good question! What am I supposed to say!?

Heinly didn't know what to do, he looked down and pulled out the too-traumatised-to-say-anything card in hopes that the judge would take pity on him and not question further.

And it almost immediately took effect.

"It's alright Heinestus, no one is forcing you. It was my mistake to pressure you on something too personal."

Nice!

Heinly inwardly grinned. Now all he had to do was to slowly fade away in the background and return to Dainsleif.

The Judge continued on, presenting the evidence - that was apparently founded by the house Armitus - to disprove the false allegations that landed on Heinestus' back.

"It has been proven to me and the whole court that the accusations pointed at Heinestus Lainly were nothing more but fabricated lies.

Heinestus, you are hereby proven not guilty and will be free from today onwards."

Heinly felt awkward when he heard that. Sure he was grateful that he wouldn't be sent to prison, but it's the fact that he still didn't know about anything that was going on.

Congrats to me I guess?

After what seemed to be an eternity Heinestus's bounds were removed and he was transferred to a different seat at the side. Heinly saw Dainslief's figure sitting at his spot and almost melted. All the anxiety he felt was no longer after seeing Dain.

Dainslief noticed and smiled at his direction, signaling Heinly to sit beside him.

He wanted to lean on Dainslief's shoulder and rest, but he knew better than to act indecent in public and tarnish both of their reputations. Based on the conversation before with the civil guards as well as the judge, no one seemed to notice the closeness of both Heinestus and Dainsleif. Perhaps because they were secretive of their relationship, but both Heinly and Dain didn't seem to mind.

Unlike with the modern world, same-sex relationships were treated as normal. Including polyamorous couples. It was also established that people, right after they were born, should be acknowledged as pansexual or asexual. For each and one of us are capable of having romantic relationships with anyone and should not be defined as one label for we are complex beings.

The differences you can find while being in this world is so mind-blowing. You'd think that they people here would also be starstruck once they learn of the things that are normalised in the future.

Heinly thought about this while staring off to space. But doubt resurfaces.

But still... Who would murder Heinestus's family and frame him? There was evidence but the culprit hasn't been revealed.

The thought of the culprit still roaming around sent chills unto Heinly's back. Dainsleif notices and grasps his hand. Heinly looked up and saw Dainslief's comforting eyes, and it immediately calmed him down. He slowly breathed.

Whatever, I'll just make sure that this person won't ever ruin my happiness.

All felt too peaceful, too peaceful... Until explosions accompanied by gunshots imploded the auditorium.
