Chapter Sixty-nine

-

Luke squinted over to the corner of the room to where a man sat and to his surprise it was Sid.

"Where is everyone?" he whispered hoarsely.

"In the waiting room," his therapist revealed.

"Can you get them for me please?" Luke asked, sitting up to grab the plastic cup of water. Shakily he sipped some and gulped it down.

"Not yet," he refused watching the blonde gently play with the tubes connected to his body.

"Are you angry?" Luke sighed knowing there was a reason behind why the man refused to get his family.

"No, I'm worried though," he admitted. It was not that Luke could see the bags under his eyes and the real concern in his eyes.

"Do you sleep often?" Luke asked sympathetically to the man.

"Not often enough," Sid laughed, smiling slightly at the boys kind gesture. No one ever asks him those types of questions apart from his mother over the phone.

"Do you have someone special to you?" Luke smiled at the thought of Ashton. He wondered if he knew that he was here right now. If he would be angry. Ashamed.

"Never had time," the therapist smiled sadly. "Helping people like you is what I want to do, I don't need someone else in my life."

"So you're married to your job?" the blonde asked.

"You could say that."

"Do you ever do anything to make you happy?" Luke asked in wonder. He thought maybe he should give the man something for all the hard work he has out into saving him.

"Helping people makes me happy."

"You're so boring," Luke moaned.

"And you talk too much," Sid laughed, getting up and heading over to the boy. "You had some nasty cuts there. 32 in total to be exact."

Luke's eyes widened in shock. "There could not have been, I was only-" The more he thought about, the more it made less sense.

"Time seems to pause sometimes, doesn't it?" Sid asked worriedly.

"I think so. It must do," Luke agreed.

"You slip into a world or arguments with your head and don't realise what you are doing."

"Does that mean I have to go back on my medication?" he sighed sadly.

"No," the man shook his head. "I never want you back on that again. I fear that you are going to hurt yourself sometimes, but over time you will learn not to. You will learn to cope. You are way too happy off of the pills, I've seen so much improvement within these two weeks than I have at all with you."

Luke smiled up at the man "Thank you."

"You have two more sessions left with me, Luke."

"Why only two?"

"I have my reasons," Sid winked causing Luke to laugh.

The two sat there for a moment, both inspecting over each other. Sid thought Luke looked good, his torso was covered by a thin gown which clung to an outline of bones. But his stomach was now basically flat with his chest.

"Your family love you very much. So does Ashton. So does Alex."

"They do," Luke agreed with a big smile. "I love them all too."

"You made Ashton feel special, I hear."

"Being off my meds was all he wanted. He said I was different and he realised that was me he fell in love with. The slightly mental version."

"You are quite mental, even not within your mental disorder," Sid agreed. "Please don't give up Luke, I really believe in you."

"With everyone around me, for the first time ever, I am truly starting to feel beautiful."
