Chapter Fourteen

Those with an evil heart seem to have a talent for destroying anything beautiful which is about to bloom.
"How are you this afternoon," Alex asked his patient examining the dark bags under his eyes.
"Fine," the boy replied, his arms crossed over his toned chest as he slumped back into the chair.
"Really?" the grey-haired man raised an eyebrow. It was a common reply from most patients and it was generally a lie. Well, truthful when anyone ever says they're fine it usually means they're not. But sometimes things are best to be left alone when people say they're fine. Alex never followed that rule though.
"Yes," Kevin said annoyed. His body gestures and tone proved he didn't want to be here.
"You sure?"
"Yes! For god sake have I not told you that twice already?" the brunette raised his voice slamming his fist against the arm of his chair.
Not scared of the boy Alex continued. "You look tired," he pointed out.
"Maybe I am but what does it matter," Kevin shrugged trying to hold back a yawn which would just make his unwanted session even worse.
"Are you not sleeping well?" the grey-haired man questioned. Kevin was rude and ignorant and was not one of Alex's favourite patient but it was his priority to ensure he left this place a better person and he would do whatever it took to help him. Although he did not show it, Alex cared a lot about all his patients.
"Yes."
"So you're sleeping okay?" Alex double checked.
"Yes! Are you deaf or something?" the brunette rolled his eyes.
"No," the therapist confirmed not offended. "It's just that you look really tired and if you are having trouble sleeping I could supply you with medication to help you," Alex explained.
"I sleep just fine thank you. I choose not to sleep appropriately at the moment," Kevin revealed rubbing his blue eyes which were dull and had no life.
"Why is that then?" Alex asked curiously knowing weird stuff went on in everyone's mind. Especially when you're in this place. He felt it too. Being here, confined, turned you a little crazy.
"You'll find out," Kevin muttered not sounding happy about it. "Eventually."
"I trust you but I need to know just in case; are you somehow taking drugs or drinking alcohol?" the man asked hating that he had to do so. He knew that even though this place was secure someone always managed to get themself in and sometimes out.
"I told you, didn't I, that I don't want to go back down that route again. I have changed."

Kevin had a troublesome childhood. His mother brought him up by herself and his father was nowhere to be found. Suspected to be behind bars. The brunette never tried to find him, never wanted to know him.
With a mother always at work trying to pay the bills, Kevin was left to fend for himself. He had friends, the wrong type though.
