"look at yourself as color. you might not be everybody's favorite color but believe me, one day you will meet someone who needs you to complete this picture."

it seemed as though venus might always find herself in the weirdest of situations with her new friends. the strangest so far being stuck in the back of the curtis's truck while steve and sodapop drag her along  to a concert they certainly have no tickets for.

it was almost three hours away, the supposed venue, and they had absolutely no plan on how to get into the place to see bob dylan. "darry's gonna kill me," sodapop muttered from the driver's seat for the millionth time.

"i'm gonna kill you!" venus exclaimed from the backseat, leaning in between the two boys. "we still have zero ideas on what we are even going to do when we get there. this is a waste of time! and gas..." she drawled out, crossing her arms.

steve glanced back to her, rolling his eyes with annoyance. "well maybe if you asked your dad to get the tickets like you were supposed to—"

"they were sold out!" she cut him off, angry that he tried to push the situation on her. "and they made it clear that this is a ticket only event. which brings me back to the point: we have no tickets!"

soda bit the inside of his cheek nervously, glancing from his friends and then back to the road over and over. "darry is so gonna kill me," he said again, gripping the steering wheel tightly. "i told him we were going for a drive around town. not hours away!"

"that's your problem, buddy," steve chorused, sitting back properly in the passenger's seat, staring at the moving concrete ahead.

venus flicked his head, distastefully with the nonchalantness of his actions. "it's all of our problems if we can't find a way in!" she fought back, still leaning over the center consul.

"you both need to stop stressing!" steve snapped, running a hand along his hair with careful intent. "it's gonna give me a headache."

"and you two will give me a heart attack!" venus countered, grumbling to herself as she leaned back into the seat.

playing with the hem of her skirt, her mind flickered to possible ideas on how to break into this stupid concert hall, and the only thing she could keep coming up with was how she wished Dally were here. if anyone, he would know how to break into somewhere undetected.

but he wasn't here, and venus was, with dumb and dumber, halfway across the state by now. steve held up the map, directing soda's shaky driving, and venus swore she wouldn't get there in one piece.

but they did, and when the boy sloppily parked the truck, venus felt nerves ride along every inch of her body at the gathering crowd, who all held tickets in her hand.

"okay," steve turned to the two, game face on. "here's the plan... we just gotta pretend like we belong here. we'll sneak in with the crowd, and if they ask... we just, uh— lost our tickets," he ended unsurely.

"this better work, bro," soda replied, opening the door to the truck. "or you're dead."

venus nodded in agreement, hopping out too now, and the three made their way to the accumulating line. about three groups away from the bouncer, their hearts dropped at the scene that played out for the unlucky suckers in front of them.
