Chapter 16/ My Break

The principal extended my break for four more days. That's what I'm calling it anyway. 

After school yesterday. 

Fenix gets out of school and comes looking for me.

 I get in my car and drive to the woods looking for Iris, but she's not there. Then I drive to the park and she's not there either. Then I call her. "Hey where are you?" I ask still at the park looking around. "I came home." Iris says. "How did you get out of school so fast?" I say sitting down on the bench. "Well I took this secret passage under the school" She says sarcastically. "Okay now tell me what actually happened?" I say a little insistently. 

"I got suspended for ten days and Tanner was suspended for five days" she says angrily. "Let me guess there was evidence, but it didn't matter?" I ask. "Yep and I knew that if I called you in as a witness that things would only get worse" she says. "You did that for me?" I ask, touched. "Well yeah I know that things have been rough for you at school and I don't want to add to that. Fenix you're my best friend" she says. "Thanks though" I say. "You're welcome," she says. 

"So what did you parents say?" I ask. "Oh I'm grounded for one month, no TV, no computer except for school and no phone" she says. "Then how do you have your phone right now?" I ask. "Oh Mom said that it won't start until dad gets home and comes up with more punishment" She says but I know she's lying. "Okay, how do you really have it?" I ask. "Can't get anything past you, okay I snuck it out of the drawer in my parents' room." she says sighing. "Okay now that makes more sense" I say realizing that she's been whispering the whole time. 

"I gotta go, I don't know how long I can get away with this" she says into the phone quietly. "Okay bye" I say. "Bye" she says and hangs up the phone. 

I hang up the phone and sigh and put my phone on my nightstand next to me. I put my hands on my face in frustration. I couldn't tell my parents why I got into a fight. They're already mad enough that I'm gay and that I got suspended. So I told them that I was defending myself which is true. I just left out the part where the fight was kind of my fault. I was just so done with everything. I guess you're only allowed to explode quietly and with no one around. At least Fenix didn't come down with me, but little did I know that they actually did.
