The week before prom everything is chaos.
No one is paying attention in class even the 4.0 GPA kids that care about EVERYTHING. There are prom fliers everywhere and the tickets were sold out the day after they came out. Me and Fenix have been to a lot of stores and shopped for every kind of suit imaginable. We have a lot of choices now. "I just don't know if I should wear a dress or a suit. What do you think?" North asks me when all six of us are at lunch. Same table as always Me, North, East, Fenix, Bow and Lace.
"Go with whatever you want. You will look as beautiful as always" I say. She gives me a quick kiss. "Thank you, but that really doesn't help," North says. "Hey how about we go shopping later and I can help you," East says. We still don't know what went on with East other than she said yes to Fenix's big prom ask the second time at the park. I'm still suspicious, but I decide to let it go for Fenix's sake. We catch up, but we spend so much time together that after five minutes we have nothing else to catch up on. The group chat is still buzzing with activity and the person that sent the message hasn't sent anymore. I know because I have them as a contact in my phone labeled Mystery Truth Revealer.
Anyways, after about twenty minutes the bell rings and we all go to class.
After school no one has homework for the first time ever in the history of the world. Mainly because the teachers don't want to be known as the mean teacher that gave students homework on prom night. Also because none of us would have done the work. Me and Fenix are in their room with the clothes everywhere. The wardrobe has multiplied into many mountains of clothes all throughout the room. We have my suit picked out. The green classic with a blue tie and a floral blue shirt. Fenix was right, it's perfect. I'm also wearing black wedges. The first time I have worn heels in...I don't know..maybe five years. Fenix is looking at the piles of clothes with their hand on their chin. I'm looking at myself in the mirror and trying on jewelry.
"Hey, it doesn't have to be perfect, just pick the outfit that feels right" I say looking in the mirror at Fenix's back. They turn around with a loving look in their eye. "Yes, I have to look perfect," Fenix says. "Why?" I ask smiling. "Because tonight, I am telling East that I'm in love with her." Fenix says looking at me. I nearly drop the earrings that I am holding. I turn around. "What?" I ask, walking to them. "I have been in love with her for a while, but I didn't know how to say it," Fenix says sitting down on the corner of their bed. "Wow" I say sitting next to them. "Do...do you think that she will say it back?" Fenix asks hesitantly. "Fenix, to be honest...I don't know" They turn their head. I grab their hand.
"But I know that if she is ready and if she loves you then she will" I say. "Thanks Iris" Fenix says. "Ok let's get you dressed" I say, nudging their shoulder with mine. "Alright" They say. We both get off of the bed and Fenix tries on maybe thirty outfits until we find the right one. It's a golden suit with a light blue shirt. Blue converses to match. I hold my hands to my mouth with tears in my eyes. "Fenix you look and don't kill me for saying this, beautiful." I say. Fenis turns around and looks in the mirror. "Wow" They say their eyes wide. "And this is the only time you call me by that objectifying term" Fenix says, still looking at their reflection. Fenix puts on a golden locket and blue rose earrings. I put on a blue stone ring, an opal necklace and opal earrings to match.
I drive us over to East and North's house. We come into the house and meet their parents for the first time. "Hello you must be East's girlfriend" Their mom says holding out her hand to me. "No, not anymore. This is Fenix her actual partner" I say motioning to Fenix. Fenix waves a little at their mom. "Well it's nice to meet you Fenix" she says holding out her hand to Fenix. Fenix takes it and shakes. "It's nice to meet you too. East has said so many wonderful things about you guys" Fenix says to both of them. "So that must make you North's girlfriend" Their dad says to me. "Yes," I reply. "Thank you," He says. I give him a confused look. "For what?" I ask. "North tolds us both how you helped her with her break up and made her feel herself again" He says.
