"Take care of the greenie, make sure she has a place to sleep where she is comfortable," Alby said while walking towards us. I looked at him. He was very big and he had made me feel home the moment I came here. Home... What was home? I wanted to go home, but I didn't know why... or what home was. "Why me?" I said while tears were filling my eyes. "Hey listen, we're all been here. We've all had our first day and I know it's awful. But tomorrow you will start a new life and we will be there to guide you. You're safe here."Newt said while Alby left."Thanks Newt."I said. All of the sudden a piercing scream ripped through the air. High and shrill, it echoed across the stone courtyard. I looked up just like the others. It came from the wooden building. "Shuck it, stay here greenie, I'll be back." Newt said while he ran towards the wooden building. I sat there alone looking at the stars. From who was that awful yell? I tried to not think about it. This place was beautiful at night. My eyes started to close as the boy with the dark hair came towards me. "Newt needs to help the med jacks so you have to do it with me." I looked up to him. "What is wrong with the guy who screamed?" I asked. "Don't worry about it. My name is Gally by the way, try to get some sleep. I'll stay with you. Tomorrow is your first day."he said while he sat beside me."I need to sleep outside?"I was confused."You have a choice, either here or inside with all the boys."I looked at the building where a few boys started to lay down."I'll sleep here."

I woke up laying on Gally's shoulder. I was startled. The guy who looked so angry was sleeping next to me. I got up and looked around. This was my first day and Alby and Newt would give me a tour today. "I see you woke up." Gally said, looking at me. "I did, where can we eat? I'm starving," I said with a smile. "I'll show you, come." I walked with him towards the wooden building. We walked inside and everybody looked at us. "Gally got himself a girlfriend." I heard someone say. "He's with the greenie." "Shut up Frypan," Gally said while walking behind me. "Don't pay attention to them," he said while touching my shoulder. I shivered, and he took his hand back. "your okay?'' He said. "yea just cold." I walked towards the table from Newt and Alby. Newt looked very quiet and didn't say a word to me the whole time. I started eating and felt a bit uncomfortable between all these boys. "Come with me," Alby said while standing up from the table" I walked behind him and looked at Newt one more time before I closed the door behind me."If you ain't scared, you ain't human. So don't be afraid to show your fear. I would understand you're surrounded by guys."I looked down, and a tear left my eye."look at me."I looked at him. He wiped the tears away. "As long you're here, I will take care of you. Don't be scared, I will treat you like a sister."he said while walking towards a giant door."Thankyou Alby.'' I said. "Here start the runners, they run through the maze every day to map it and try to find a way out." He pointed at the doors. "They open every morning and close every evening." "What if they come back too late?" I asked while looking at the massive doors. "Then they are stuck in the maze and will be killed by grievers.'' I looked at him. "Grievers?" "They are in the maze. They can stung you and it will kill you." he said looking down. I saw he wasn't comfortable with it. "what's there?" I said to bring the conversation to another topic. "There are some fruit plants and other kinds of plants and trees which provide us food." he said while walking towards them. "We only have three rules here: Never go outside the glade unless you're a runner, Never hurt another glader you must trust each other and everyone does their part no slackers."he said while looking at me."Can I look at the medjacks, maybe I can help there?"I said."If you aren't scared easily, you can, come on then."

Gally was standing inside as well. He looked at me and immediately walked towards me and laid his arm around my shoulder. I looked up. "Gally, can you please.. not."I said while walking away. He looked weird at me and walked outside. Newt started laughing. "what's so funny?" I said. "Gally told us about you. He likes you." I widened my eyes. "It's weird, normally he is very strict to the new greenies but you're playing with his mind," he said. Alby laughed and got on the stairs. "Come." I walked behind him. "Wow, what are you going to do with her?" Newt said. "She's going to look if medjack is something for her." he said while walking further. "Okay, tell me what you would do by Chuck here." he said. I walked towards the boy. He wasn't that old. "What is the problem?" I asked while looking at him. "I hurt my ankle while I was running." I looked at his ankle and felt. It was warm, blue and swollen. "Can you move your foot for me?" I asked him. He looked at me and moved his foot. "Okay so it's not broken but it is bruised, you need to take some rest." I said looking at Alby. "Not bad, you can stay here and help the others. I'll get you when the food is done," he said with a smile and walked away.
