3 days before the Jeju island trip

"I'm gonna repeat myself one last time..."
She pushed her glasses on her nose, glaring at me behind the thick glass.
I gulped.
"I cannot disclose any information regarding the patient. Only for family and emergency contacts," said the old hospital nurse for the tenth time.
I pinched my lips behind my mask, politely nodding at her words.
She gave me another dark stare behind the nurse desk, turning her back to me.
I sighed, rubbing my wet eyes.
For the past hour, I had been pacing around the hallways, waiting for someone, anyone, to give me some news about Yejin.
Thanks to her colleague, the one she saved, the police and ambulance came fast enough on the scene.
But still, Yejin had not woken up yet.
Dragging my feet back to her hospital room, I was starting to get really worried.
I looked at my reflection in the dark windows. My eyes had become red and puffy. My mask was dirty and wet from the tears. I was looking exhausted.
I arrived in front of her door and looked through the little window.
The nurses had forbidden me to enter it because I wasn't family, even threatening to kick me out of the hospital.
So I just decided to stay in front of her door like a dog.
I placed my forehead against the cold glass, my fingers holding the window frame. I just watched as her chest was slowly heaving, up and down, below the hospital gown.
It completely broke my heart to see her like that.
Her small body looked even smaller laying down on the large hospital bed. She seemed so vulnerable, so frail.
You never could have imagined she was knocking down a crazy dude just an hour ago.
Her long black hair was all tangled on the side of the pillow.
I only wished I could have been closer to her. I just wanted to hold her hand. To caress her hair.
I wanted to add more pillows and blankets to her bed. I knew she liked being cozy to sleep.
I wished someone could have told me what was wrong, why she had not woken up yet...
My eyes fell on the white bandage around her forearm.
Images of the night flashed in my mind.
I felt my nostrils flaring, my nails digging into the wood of the door.
Even though I knew the police caught the guy, I just...
My breath got shaky, my jaws clenched together.
I just wanted to kill him.
I closed my eyes when my vision got blurry with tears again.
I turned around, my back against Yejin's door, sitting on the cold floor.
What if I had not shown up at the hostess bar? Would it have happened? Why was she in the back alley in the first place?
Worse... What would have happened if I had not followed her outside? What would have happened if I did not rush outside when I heard her colleague yell her name?
