67. Nightmares

"Baby bear?"

I got rid of my slippers and walked inside the living room.

The lights were on but there was no trace of her around.

I didn't like that.

"Micha?" I called again, walking to the office.

I found her songwriting notebooks all over the piano.

I took one of them between my hands, flicking through the pages.

All we ever knew, I read her beautiful handwriting on a white page. Was no longer true...

I felt it again.

"Micha!"

The anxiety.

I walked out of the office, rushing to the bedroom.

Empty.

I texted her an hour ago and she said she was home.

"MICHA!"

My heart was beating fast in my chest, my eyes darting all over the place.

I checked the balcony's glass doors. They were locked the same way from when I left this morning.

I heard the front door unlocking.

"Tae?"

"MICHA?!"

I heard a small yap and Yeontan excitedly ran to me.

"Did you just get hom-"

Too fast, I pushed her between my arms, forcing her face against my chest.

"Ta-"

I held her tight, as tight as I could.

I grasped her little arms, her small back, her soft hair.

She was here. She was here with me.

The air blocked in my lungs released. My body relaxed. My heartbeat became steady again.

I hugged her as strong as I could, trying to make the universe understand...

That she could never, ever, leave me.

She could never disappear.

"Tae!" she muffled in between my arms. "I can't breathe!"

"Oh. Sorry."

I jerked away from her, releasing her body from my intense grip.

"I took Yeontan for a walk alone... Since you said you'll have dinner with the boys..." she explained with worried eyes on me.

Alone?

No, it's fine. It's safe.

We'd usually walk around the condo's private dog park with Tannie. They have security cameras all around that place.

It's safe.

Right?

"Tae?"

My eyes came back on her.

"Tae, what's wrong?"

She felt it before me.

She must have felt it before me.
