It was just gone midday when they finally left the hotel. Neither of them had been in a rush to get going and it had been nice to just lounge around together.
It was going to be a long day as they were flying to Amsterdam straight after the show so they had to make the most of the relaxing whilst they could.
"Is there anywhere you want to go today?" Jack asked as they stepped out into the cold afternoon air. Alex simply shrugged. "You've been pretty good at planning things so far."
They took a slow walk, looking at all the beautiful architecture until they came across a large market that seemed to sell everything from tourist knick-knacks to toilet roll.
"Is that a cactus decorated to look like Santa?" Jack frowned, as he followed Alex's gaze. Taking a step closer to the stall he realised he was right.
He snorted softly, shaking his head. "It's cute." He offered, making Alex chuckle.
"Let's go find something to eat, I'm starving."
Naturally, they ended up finding a place that sold Pizza. They were in Italy after all, what else were they supposed to eat?
"This is incredible." Alex enthused as he took a large bite from his slice. "I don't think I'm ever gonna be able to eat pizza again after this!" Jack chuckled softly. "I feel the same about the ice cream." Gelato was the best.
They walked around the rest of the market before Alex insisted, they go back to where they had entered so he could rescue the Santa cactus.
"What are you going to do with it?" Jack laughed as the guy put it in a small paper bag. "It's a cactus Jack, you look after it." Jack rolled his eyes. He'd never been much good at looking after plants. They always seemed to die on him within a few weeks.
They walked through a small, roofed passageway and Jack paused when they passed a small window. It showed a small corridor between the two rows of old looking buildings with a small river trickling between. It was beautiful.
"Lex look." He cried, more than a little surprised. "It looks like Venice!" Alex laughed at that. "What do you know about Venice?"
"I've seen photos!"
Alex rolled his eyes with a smile but deigned to take the few steps back to look with Jack. "Wow. I guess there are little surprises everywhere."
They stepped out into a large square, beautiful old buildings on all sides with small walkways leading off here and there.
"This must be Piazza Maggiore." Alex mused as he looked around.
"What?" Jack asked, confused.
"I guess it's kind of like the city centre. Lots of historical buildings." He shrugged dismissively as Jack smiled.
He loved how knowledgeable Alex was. He could tell you something interesting about even the most obscure of subjects.
