Everest's POV
The girl-Marina- I had to keep reminding herself, was pretty. Marina was slightly taller then I was, which wasn't exactly unusual, even though I was 5' 8". After all, most of the people in my classes were seniors or juniors. And I was a sophomore. Ah the curse of being smart. But I didn't mind too much because I'm wasn't shy, or socially awkward. That was extremely lucky because if I was a 10th grade socially awkward geek surrounded by 11th and 12th grade jocks, then that would certainly not be good.
Anyways, Marina was very socially awkward. She even looked awkward standing there, holding their pizzas. But those pizza smelled hella good and I was hungry. So the girl came in. And she smiled, awkwardly of course, and sat where I was working on my biology project. With Luna. My partner. Sigh.
Luna was very interesting. Oh what the hell, I won't sugarcoat it. She was a freak and seemed to have her secrets. But it's not like I'm not weird or don't have secrets, so I don't ask about the sword hanging above her bed, or very sharp "kitchen knives" that she keeps displayed above the sink. Or when she came running to answer the door when I came earlier today, how she had a tiny speck of blood on her shirt. I grabbed a slice of pizza and ate, waiting for Luna to start the conversation. This would be funny, because Luna didn't seem to know how to start a conversation, only say the first thing that came into her mind. I must have made a face because then Marina said, "Is the pizza okay? I could just go back and get a new one...."
"No it's fine, but do you want to help with the project? It's very boring, and Luna here doesn't seem to understand the concept of evolution."
"I do!" she said indignantly, though her face had reddened slightly, "but I just think I have evolved more than you to know that IT'S NOT A THEORY, AND GOD IS NOT REAL!"
"This is what I have to deal with. So will you help us?" I asked, ignoring the angry glare Luna was giving her.
"Um sure why not?" Marina said, and started to look over their project so far.
I found myself unintentionally comparing the two girls that sat before me. On the one hand, Luna was very pretty, and Marina would be described more as stunning. Luna had long, wavy hair, whereas Marina's hair was slightly shorter and more curly than wavy. Both of them had beautiful eyes that made me jealous. Piercing blue for Luna and green for Marina. Meanwhile, I was stuck with brown. How often in books did they go on and on about the eyes being blue or green or grey? But when do books pay attention to the boring brown eyes? Never. Oh well, I was okay with red hair. It reminded me of Amy Pond and that always made me smile, then cry.
When I saw that Luna had gone to her kitchen, I heard Marina's voice clearly for the first time. She called out to Luna that the paper part of their project was good so far, and I could not help but think of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter every time I heard the name. Luna. When Luna first told me her name, I wasn't sure if she was joking. Then again, my name is Everest...
Then Luna came back and announced that she was a bored and now would be a great time for a party. This would be interesting.
