Everest's POV

I walked in wolf form along side Lacy, who was walking briskly. The search for Caspar had not been productive. Lacy didn't seem quite like the one to just make random small talk, but she started asking me questions. I rolled my eyes as hard as I could, but she didn't seem to notice. How was I supposed to answer her questions? I was a wolf... And she was the one who told me to Change.

"So how did you end up here? I guess my brother was up to his games again. He seriously needs to get a grip. Caspar is so lame. He thinks that whole sexy hero assassin I-just-kidnapped-your-friends-please-forgive-me thing will actually work on girls. Please. It's not the first time he's done this. I bet Luna is kicking his ass right now. It wouldn't surprise me."

I finally nudged her hard enough to where she stumbled to get her to shut up. I didn't care what she thought. I just wanted to find Luna. Why did Marina leave me alone with this bitch who stabbed me? I already knew the answer though- Lacy couldn't exactly be trusted, and I was the one with a better fighting chance against her.

With a sigh, I started to Change back into human form when Lacy stopped me. She put her hand out in front of me and I scanned the surroundings, startled. Had she found Caspar and Luna? That's when I saw the mysterious glow at the end if the street. A flashlight. As stupid as it sounds, I started the Change even more urgently, as if being in my human form gave me more comfort.

I closed my eyes and in seconds, I was back to being human. I was getting pretty good at this. The pain was still there, and blood was still dripping from tje wound, but adrenaline helped the pain. Then, I saw the flashlight making a pattern across the street. I looked to the holder of the flashlight and did not recognize him. It was hard to make him out in the darkness, but he seemed about 6 and a half feet tall. So he was towering over me when he got there, and even made Lacy's aura of power seem insignificant. He smiled creepily, it stretched across his face, with space between his top and bottom teeth because his mouth was open so wide. It was obviously a fake smile, used to make people think you were pleased. I knew this look from my mother. He was bald, but not old. Maybe late 30s or early 40s. He didn't look like much (other than maybe a rapist), but judging from his confidence, he was dangerous. I hated him instantly.

Lacy was staring in horror, so either she despised him instantly too (not hard to believe), or she knew him. I'm guessing she knew him because he then said, "Ah, Lacy. How have you been? And since when have you been friends with a werewolf. I thought better of you." He shook his head in disapproval. Shit. I thought I had Changed in time.

"Who the hell are you?" I asked.

"No one that concerns you, werewolf. " Excuse me bitch?

"Well because you know my um girlfriend here, it does concern me," I replied with as much force as I could. Maybe he would believe my quickly constructed lie and give me some information.

"Oh, so you're gay now Did you pull a Willow, and she's your Tara?" he asked Lacy. She had still not gotten over her shock, but I could see her recovering, so I drew her in for a kiss. Why the hell not. I figured the only way to get him to tell me anything was if he thought I was actually a part of all this. So girlfriend? Why not?

Of course, when I drew her in for a kiss, I realized just how straight I was. Straight as a line. Basically, it was the most awkward kiss of all time. I tasted cherry lip balm...so cliche. I grabbed her in my arms, wrapping her in a hug, still trying to make it as little awkward as possible. Finally, I let go, gasping for sweet, sweet air. I smiled sweetly as the man, and he looked mildly amused. Right, back to business.

As dignified as I could, I asked "So who are you? I don't think beautiful Lacy has told me about you yet."

He chuckled and replied, "I'm Zach Cillgod. Pleased to meet you miss...."

"Everest. Everest Caine," I answered.

His face lit up, and he said cheerfuly, "Caine? Oh I hunted your family for years!" Nice guy. I tried smiling timidly. I was about to ask him another question when I saw Lacy dart out from beside me and do some sequence of backflips/cartwheels/somersaults, and she landed right on Zach Cillgod punching and kicking with glory.

He, however, blocked her attempts and pushed her off as if she was a child. I don't know why, but I felt the need to defend Lacy, even though she had done more harm to me than this guy had. I Changed and jumped on to him, claws extended. He wasn't ready for this. I clawed his eyes out mercilessly. Where the hell did that come from? I might be a bitch, but I didn't even know this guy.

He had fallen on the ground, and I began to Change back into human form.

"Now please answer any and all questions I have," I calmly ordered, carefully removing his eyeballs from my still retracting claws.
