The One With The (almost) Bacon-Dropping

Everest's POV

Everyone-except Marina and me- dropped whatever they were holding, and if they weren't holding anything, they opened their hand as if dropping the air.

I didn't know why they were so surprised. A- I mean, sure Calum was a popular, attractive, asshole, jock person, but how could they even know that. 2 (no B or whatever you prefer)-it wasn't drop-your-bacon-on-the-floor worthy. Almost nothing was.

I was most definitely surprised and my mouth opened. But my bacon remained in my hand. The "Commander" narrowed her eyes saying, "Calum Chase. Are you sure? Has he tried to...I don't know....murder or hurt you?" (Okay I know Calum was a douche but wtf woman?)

Marina reddened noticeably and said, "Of course he hasn't tried to hurt me. I just said we have been in a relationship for 3 YEARS. Why would it matter anyways?"

The assassins all shared a look, so I shared a look with Marina.

Luna, ever the icebreaker, spoke up. "Calum Chase is my next assignment. I am supposed to kill him, as directed by the Commander."

Marina stared. And stared. She dropped her fork. I also stared. And almost dropped my bacon. Almost.

Marina started shaking her head like a hyperactive child, not sure what to look at.

Like whiplash, the last night came rushing past me. Obviously, I remembered it, but now, I was wondering if the right decisions were made. About trusting Luna. And Caspar. And Lacy. And not trusting Mr.  Cillgod.

These were assassins. Calum, though a jerk, was an innocent teenager. The most intricate and threatening thing he could be planning was a way to get his girlfriend alone in a room to have sex with her. Though I now knew that that girlfriend was Marina.

If the shock wasn't enough, I then fell over on the table, gasping for air. Everyone looked concerned, except for Marina, who was still staring in shock. Caspar came running over, which didn't surprise me

(he came into my room and healed my stab wound last night after we got back.)

Luna and Lacy followed, and the Commander was yelling at Caspar, "I THOUGHT YOU HEALED HER!"

"I...I did...didn't I? It's never not worked..." Caspar replied looking confused. Lacy had paled. The pain had spread from my side to my heart, and it felt like a thousand knives stabbing my whole side. The pain of the original wound was tripled.

Caspar then said, "POISON. I think it's poison. From the knife..."

I blacked out after that, but I knew everyone had turned to Lacy.....

I woke up to Marina staring at me, obviously thinking hard. The pain was still horrible, threatening to turn my world black. Damn this stab wound. Damn Lacy.

Instead of giving in to the pain, I clenched my teeth and asked Marina how she was.

"Fine I guess. I mean it's not everyday you find out your boyfriend is the next victim of some assassins," Marina said solemnly.

"It's also not every night that you get drunk from cookie dough, almost raped, saved by a strange man who then kidnaps you and tells you you are a psychic and he's an assassin, then goes chasing after out new friend, who is also apparently an assassin, and I get stabbed by yet another assassin because EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE AN ASSASSIN HERE, and you find the other two assassins making out in a school, and then I claw out some random guys eyes for little reason. Sweetie, in  the past 12 hours, there have been plenty of first times for both of us." I quickly realized how insensitive this was. "No. I mean your boyfriend-"

"It's okay, I understand," Marina replied, and I smiled gratefully. This was too much for me and I blacked out again.

This time when I woke up, I saw the Commander looking at me, concerned. The pain was worse than ever before, but this became insignificant when a horrible thought occurred. My mom. What would she think? It's not like I stayed out all night often, and she knew it was a full moon last night. What if she thought I had killed someone (as a wolf) accidentally and ran way?  I couldn't focus on these thoughts for long though because Lacy came wandering up to me looking concerned, guilty, and timid. Damn right she should be scared. She was about to say something but again (sigh) I passed out.
