Everest's POV
After I Changed, the man looked back at me, surprised, but not, if that makes any sense. Like he knew I had a secret, and he knew werewolves were real, but he wasn't expecting me to Change into one. Neither was I. I was supposed to be in control, but nooooooo, Luna just had to make me get drunk.
He had slammed on the breaks, and I think Marina hit her head on the dash, because she was silent after that. Maybe it was shock. Then, he turned around and shot me.
In the movies, it's always just a tranquilizer dart or something, but he full on shot me. I howled in pain, but it was not nearly as bad in wolf form as it would be in human form.
Now I know, generally in the fairy tales and such, werewolves heal faster. Some might becasue each werewolf has a power or strength, and I hadn't discovered mine yet. Anyways, I howled in pain and all that, and he told me to shut up.
"You should have thought about that BEFORE YOU SHOT ME," I said, and howled louder just because I'm such a rebel. I could tell that Marina was definitely unconscious now, and blood was seeping through her hair.
"What do you want with us? With Luna?" I asked. It was a fair question, and after all, he had just shot me, so he owed me an explanation.
"That I cannot say. So shut up." Damn, this guy was great (sarcasm if you couldn't tell). Then, I heard him mutter something in Latin, and I felt very sleepy. I knew Latin, so I tried to translate it, but I fell asleep before I could remember what it meant.
So I woke up here and surveyed the room. I did not feel the pain I expected to feel from the gunshot. In fact, I felt nothing. Maybe I could heal faster? I thought there would still be a scar, but there wasn't even a scratch. Maybe that man healed me....but no. He wouldn't. He is the one who shot me.
Marina, who put her feet in my fur in a surprisingly comforting way, no longer had blood in her hair, or a cut to show where it had come from. This was definitely suspicious.
Wolves had excellent hearing, of course, so I could hear the man from the car well before I saw him walk into the room. His name was Caspar, he said.
He also had some very interesting news. Luna. An assassin? I guess I could see it, maybe. But wow. I did not see that coming. As told us that, my eyes widened, probably noticeably.
When he said that he sent the text to Luna, I knew she would come immediately. She might not exactly like me, but she seemed the sort of person to run to the rescue and shit. I guess because she was an assassin. Disregarding the alcoholic cookie dough incident, I didn't want her to get hurt, even though I knew she could take on this bitch. He wanted something from her, but what?
I turned to Marina, who had taken the whole wolf/assassin thing sort of calmly. It seemed as if she had already known. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not telepathic or anything, this isn't Twilight (thankfully), but I can sense emotions pretty well. Oh yeah, and what about her being a psychic? I could not see that in her. Judging from her reaction, neither could she.
I knew it was only a matter of time before Luna arrived. I had to get out of this, get my phone and tell her not to come, prevent this man from harming her, something. Maybe she was an assassin ninja person, but if she got hurt because of me, I would never forgive myself. I was a frickin werewolf. I could Change back to get out of the ropes, but it was unlikely that I could do it fast enough and successfully on my first try. Other options:break the rope, howl and hope she could hear it, though I don't know if it would mean anything to her, get Marina out and maybe she could use psychic powers, or get Caspar to come to me, and I could strangle him. I was obviously not a very experienced werewolf. I had never been in a situation like this.
The problem with breaking the ropes is that, even though I am a werewolf, I don't have infinite strength or anything. I also have no training because my mother refused to train me. She said lycanthropy ran in blood, that wolves turned people into vampires by biting them, and the offspring of vampires were even more vampires. But that is all she told me, nothing about father. All I know about him is that he left about one month before I was born. And that he wrote me a letter that she refuses to show me.
But since I had to do something, I tried to break the ropes. With all my strength, I tugged at the ropes. I was making progress, and I could feel the threads ripping as I pulled. Then, I heard the heavy pounding of feet running outside the building, and I knew Luna was there. So did Caspar. He perked up and ran outside. I howled and roared, and Marina just looked confused. I guess she didn't hear the footsteps. Suddenly, I broke free of the ropes and ran out of the room in a flash, leaving behind Marina.
