The One With The Change

Everest's POV

I could not believe it. I had almost slipped. It was a full moon. I almost, almost, got caught. I was vulnerable and drunk and stupid. Luna had put alcohol in the cookie dough. The bastard.

When I stepped into the car, I knew I had to leave soon. I had started to learn to control The Change, but on a full moon, it was hard to resist. I was already fighting it. Luckily, I had some experience with being drunk. My mom didn't really care about me going to parties, and like I said, I pretty much hang out with seniors.

So ya, I was drunk, on a full moon, in a car, with a stranger. Oh, and Marina. This night was getting pretty shitty. I feigned sickness, like I was gonna throw up.

"Probably hung over" Marina said from the front. I nodded, though it was only half true.

"I realllllly should get home. I uh don't wanna throw up in your car," I said to the man driving. "What's your name anyway? And um thanks for saving us"

"It was nothing. I didn't want you to be raped by those men. " I nodded, but noticed he did not tell us his name.

"Ok so can you take me home, I live-"

"No," he said, rather forcefully. "You need to come with me."

"Um, you can't hold me against my will. I know you saved us and all, but that does not allow you to keep us in your car. I do not know you, and you might be a rapist yourself. Maybe you only saved us to keep us to yourself for all I know. So let us out of the car, or I swear to God I will-"

"I need to know about Luna," he interrupted. For the second time, I noticed.

"Luna? That's what this is about? So what, are you one of her crazy friends from wherever she came from? Can you explain the blood and weapons in her house? Or, are you her boyfriend or......a stalker?"

"What? Oh um, no I just need to know how she's doing, how she's... adjusting to this new school. And I know you guys were at her house-" (guess the stalker theory was right?)

This time Marina interrupted him "You were watching us!?" She squeaked. She looked pretty mad. Can't say I blame her.

"No, I... More like observing-"

"Um who the hell are you? And let me out of this car now," I said, getting very angry, and I was feeling The Change coming on.

"I can't tell you. I'm just a friend of a friend, I guess you could say. I'm not a stalker and I don't want to hurt her or you. Just tell me about her, please."

"Ask her yourself," I said through clenched teeth.

"Are you okay?" Marina asked. No I wasn't, but I just couldn't talk. I had to use all my effort not to Change.

"I can't ask her that's the thing. I can't see her or speak to her. She can't know I was here," he said, ignoring the fact that Marina ever spoke, but he was answering my question. Well not a question, more like a statement. No, imperative. But grammar aside, he was saying something helpful at least.

I then looked in the front mirror to see me convulsing and shaking. I started to whisper book quotes (usually that helps).

"Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold."

"Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood."

"Dying? Not at all. Quicker and easier than falling asleep."

The world was turning different colors, my head spinning. I had tried to fight it. I really had. But honestly, a half-hung over, tired, pissed girl -sorry, werewolf-is not good for controlling The Change. So with a ripping pain that accompanies every Change, I felt a howl rising through my throat.

And all I could think about was how Marina would know. I actually kinda liked her, and now, she would know.
