Everest's POV
I sat, half conscious, in the back, straining to hear what was going on around me. For some reason, I could only hear a faint mummer in the front (Luna still flirting with the police). Maybe it was just because she was the only one talking.
I tried to look at Marina for comfort, but it seemed like any movement would cause me to black out, so I rested my head against the window.
For some reason, the idea of going to jail didn't sink in yet. It was just another part of this long and dangerous journey. Well, I mean, getting stabbed by a poisonous blade seemed a lot worse than being arrested. Especially the poison part.
I focused even harder to hear how Luna was doing, and this is all I heard, "don't think you should arrest us. I mean, come on, how were we supposed to know this was stolen?" Luna. Her slight British accent had strengthened, probably to sound sexier.
"Please. So your friend just shows up with a random car that you have never seen before, and you think that it's hers? That she got a new car without even telling you?"
"She's a very...secretive person," and when Luna realized this would only make it worse, she quickly shut up. I could easily picture the smug smile plastered on his ugly face.
Luckily, we had a group of assassins who could all kick some police ass if we needed it. I am guessing Luna saw this opportunity when she started muttering in Latin. I recognized the last word, stop, and the car stopped magically.
The police officer started swearing, but then Luna just completely and utterly kicked his fat ass. It was honestly the best part of my day so far.
Now came the problem of a ride. We couldn't use the other car, now that the police knew it was stolen.
Someone came up with the bright idea the Caspar take the officer's clothes and drive me to Texas in the back while the others went home. Some problems with that were 1) Caspar looked too young 2) Caspar would never fit in that uniform and 3) when we got out of Seattle, the police car shouldn't say Seattle Police on it.
So our next idea was to change the license plate on our stolen car. This plan was bound to have complications, but if we ever ran in to more police, we could beat them up again. Or, Luna could beat them up again.
I was lying on the ground, about to pass out, so everyone knew we had to do something soon. Caspar and Luna ran off to get a license plate while Marina and Lacy came up to me, worried. I smiled weakly at Marina, and she smiled back. Lacy just looked down at the ground.
"It's gonna be alright," Marina whispered. I know, I thought. I know.
Caspar and Luna came back with the car, and I collapsed in the back seat. They had better get that cure soon. I could feel myself barely holding on.
I heard the radio turn on up front. Some song about Jude. I normally would know the song, but I could not concentrate. I saw the people in the front singing and dancing. I wished I could have been dancing and singing. Marina turned around and saw me struggling to stay awake, so she climbed back to where I was lying down.
She started to sing to me along with the song, and I suddenly remembered what it was: Hey Jude. It cheered me up. I smiled, even though I knew I looked high. Marina laughed as if she was cuddling a small baby. That made me laugh, which broke into a cough. I kept coughing, and eventually I started coughing blood.
Marina called to Luna. I coughed. She called to Luna louder. The car stopped. Luna came to the back. Caspar came to the back. He started to chant Latin. I was in too much pain to try to figure out what he was saying. The pain dulled. Everything felt better. Well, compared to the earlier pain. It still felt like hell, just a nicer, less firey and evil, version.
"That should last for a few hours. After that, I don't know. We need to hurry. So anyone who has to pee, go now," Caspar said, like he was in charge. Maybe he was, I don't know.
