Chapter 17 - Heart-to-Heart

“Aaaah!” I yelled, holding my head in my hands as I knelt on the cold floor. It was all too much to see them all tied there, helpless, awaiting a fate that I had to choose. Slowly, I looked back up at them all, as they stood there in sadness.

“Come on.” Tobi smirked from the screen. “If you don't hurry up, I'll just kill them all.”

“Gh... If you're such an evil person...” I struggled back to my feet, wiping my eyes. “Then why haven't you done just that?”

“Good question.” He rubbed his hands together. “The answer is: I want you to suffer. Killing people is one thing, but to plunge you into madness is even better. I can just imagine the guilt you'll feel, knowing that you let seven people die before your eyes because you were selfish enough to only save the ones that suit your own needs.”

“No!” I shouted back at him. “It... It isn't like that...! How can you possibly determine life and death on what 'suits your own needs'...?”

“It's fun, you should try it.” Tobi laughed.

“Toby...” Nelly spoke.

“Nelly...!” I stepped towards her.

“Don't listen to him... Do what you think is right...”

“B-but...”

“I'm scared...” Bonnie breathed.

“I-I don't want to die...” Holly swallowed.

I looked down at the metal floor again and shook my head. The steel pillar they were tied to was looming before me, and I walked to the start of it, to talk to everyone one-by-one.

“How did he get you, Holly?” I asked, standing before her.

“Ugh... I was at the Pokemon League, about to go out to face a challenger, but... I was jumped in the tunnel, and I blacked out.” She explained.

“Dammit... I... I'm so sorry...”

“It's not your fault, Toby. I just can't believe that Tobi really came back... I swear you broke that sword.”

“Apparently I can't do anything right...” I sulked.

“Well, when I'm gone... Promise me you'll beat him.”

“Wh-what? When you're gone?”

“Come on.” Holly laughed lightly, in spite of the situation. “You and I both know that there's at least one person more important than the rest of us in this trap... And I don't expect you to pick me or anyone else just because of our sob stories.”
