Chapter 12 - Swallowed in Darkness

The dream was so vivid that it felt real, yet at the same time, there was hardly anything happening. A white void was the setting, with absolutely no landscape at all. No wind, no grass, no water. Just white. I was walking in the blank space, as if it were some type of ground. Nelly and Lydia were standing before me, simply smiling. It made me happy to see them both there, but then the dream took a turn for the worst, as the sound of evil rang around.

“Well, well... How nice...”

The three of us turned towards the voice, and of course, it was none other than Tobi, slowly walking towards us. In the dream, I instinctively stepped in front of the girls, spreading my arms.

“Go away!” I shouted at him.

“Don't tell me what to do.” Tobi smirked. His sword was in his right hand, but instead, he raised his left.

“Stay away... Please... Just go away...”

“Begging? Oh, how the mighty have fallen.” He laughed.

“Toby...” Nelly said in fear.

“I don't like this...” Lydia cowered.

“Don't worry... I won't let him touch you...” I looked into both of their eyes.

“I don't need to touch somebody to kill them.” Tobi licked his lips. “Watch.”

He swiped his left hand across his body, and an invisible force sent me crashing down into the floor. Almost as soon as I hit the ground, Tobi switched hands and brought up his sword, firing the beam at the girls.

“No!” I screamed, trying to climb back to my feet. “Nelly!”

Before the beam reached them, the whole scene erupted. Everything went black, and I felt myself fly through the air.

“Lydiaaaaaa!”

I opened my eyes in shock, breathing heavily. Cold sweat was trickling down the back of my neck as I panted. Morning light was gently pulsing in through the curtains, and I could see properly. The purple blanket had shifted slightly, and Nelly had her head on my lap. Lydia was sat up beside me, stretching.

“You all right?” She yawned. “You woke up pretty fast.”

“Hah...” I breathed. “Yeah, I just... I had a bad dream.”

“Oh... Are you ok?”

“Uh... Yeah, I think so... Thanks.”

“It's ok. Thanks for letting me stay down here with you guys.” Lydia smiled.
